I guess I've got to put Warren at #1.  Even though I'm not sure she wants it, she'd be quite formidable, so she wins by default.  #2.....Cory Booker maybe?  Simply because he'd be favored to win the black vote, and '08 and '16 showed us how powerful the black vote is in Dem. primaries.

After that, it's a big mystery.  Looks like Gillibrand, Klobuchar and O'Malley at least want to run (and probably Cuomo too, but he may be finished).  Kaine presumably wants to run too.  But I don't know how to handicap them at this point.  Not sure if Clinton's loss means that the desire by some Dem. primary voters to elect a woman will be enhanced or diminished in 2020.  Or how that will play out if (as seems likely) there are multiple women running.

I'm also assuming that there'll be at least one (probably more) progressive insurgent candidates younger than Sanders or Warren.  But not sure who it'll be yet.

1. Kirsten Gillibrand
2. Andrew Cuomo (Only ranked this high because of high Pr(Darkest Timeline|President Trump)
3. Tim Kaine
4. Kampala Harris
5. Amy Klobuchar

Not likely: Joe Biden (age, limited appeal, Obama's legacy is now toxic), Bernie Sanders (age, will have plenty of power even without running), Elizabeth Warren (age, limited appeal, offends sexists), Cory Booker (sexual deviance, shady finances), JBE (lol), Castor twins (too dull), Martin O'Malley (another run puts him in Chaffee/Pataki territory), Tulsi Gabbard (obvious crook), Mark Cuban (although some of the more out-of-touch party leaders will talk him up because they like the idea of having their own pet douchebag billionaire-entertainer; these people are dangerous and should be purged)
Why do you believe Cory Booker is a sexual deviant?

Even if the DNC doesn't want to nominate someone very different from Hillary, and wants a more establishment-friendly Democrat, the voters are going to chart a different course. They are going to go with someone more obviously progressive, and perhaps somewhat of a populist. 2016 was the death of the Republican establishment, and I think 2020 will be the death of the Democratic establishment. I can't see Kaine, Booker, or Cuomo getting anywhere with voters.

Ugggh not Corey Booker.

I think, like, Sherrod Brown with more personality (Al Franken?) is the exact right pick to lead Democrats back to the promised land and win back the Obama 08/12 rural whites

1. Elizabeth Warren - I don't think she'll run, but she's really the only one who stands out from the field.
2. Tulsi Gabbard - Bernie bros love her, Hillary hacks generally don't mind her, young, strong personal narrative, and easy to make a case for.
3. Sherrod Brown - A good combination of uber-liberal Midwest progressive. Not sure about his charisma, though, and that could hold him back.
4. Kamala Harris - An unknown nationally with a lot of room to grow.
5. Al Franken - A good foil to Trump, but do we really want to stoop to the point of having an election between two old white men who are former TV stars?

You live in this country, right?  We are basically so stooped at this point that we are crawling on the floor.

Honest answer - she doesn't "seem" foreign. She wears "American" clothes, speaks "American" English. You probably couldn't identify her ancestry just by looking at her.

Not to mention the fact that she's served in the armed forces.

Generally, I don't think people are actually racist to genuinely care what religion others are, as long as they "fit in." Gabbard might have a different background from the majority of Americans, but she isn't an affront to "Americanism" in the eyes of your average swing voter.

Is it bad that I as a liberal really don't like these picks at all?

I really wanted Elizabeth Warren to be Hillarys running mate and still think that would have been a good call to rally the base (of which Tim Kaine did nothing) and probably enough to win the election. But she is RADIOACTIVE for conservatives. Her style puts so many people off in a way which the typical liberal technocrat (Hillary, Kerry, Gore, etc) does not. I don't think she is a strong top-of-the-ticket candidate for the general. Also, she'll be 71.

I really like Amy Klobuchar, but Liberals just does not win when they nominate technocrats. I would love her as president though.

Kirsten Gillibrand? Just no. Her super affective style just puts a lot of people off and doesn't signal competence. Furthermore, I think she is a lightweight.

Sherrod Brown? I don't know. The guy has some serious vocal chord issues, that I think puts people off. Might also be too liberal for the general. On the other hand, he has proven that can win in Ohio, so maybe. I'm not against him.

Tim Kaine? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. He really did nothing for Clinton and proved that he just doesn't attract any attention for a reason.

Gavin Newsom? Maybe. He's got the right age and the right look and speaks well, but lieutenant govenor of California and mayor of San Francisco? It would be easy to paint him as too green for the job.

Kamala Harris? Quite the wild card here. A woman with a multiracial background. Well spoken. Progressive opinions. I like it!

Tulsi Gabbard. Have seen very little of her and that which I have seen have not led me to believe that she is presidential material.

Cory Booker. I like him quite a lot. He's got some charisma, which quite a few of the others lack. Hopefully his Wall Street ties won't kill him off in the primaries.

Andrew Cuomo. I don't think he would survive the primaries in this political climate.

Martin O'Malley. Was just a complete flop in 2016. More robotic than Rubio at the debates. If he is to contend he needs to seriously work on his style.

Brian Schweitzer. A really strong candidate for the general, but I don't like him and I don't think he survives the primaries.

I could go on, but in short there is no standout candidate to me. Hopefully one will emerge, and preferably one who is not a wingnut.
