Gavin Newsom? Maybe. He's got the right age and the right look and speaks well, but lieutenant govenor of California and mayor of San Francisco? It would be easy to paint him as too green for the job.

He's running for governor in 2018.  I think the people speculating that he might run assume that it would only happen if wins the governorship first.

That said, it would be rather awkward to be elected governor of the nation's biggest state, and then just a few months later say "I'm going to become a part-time governor now, because I'm running for president."

I don't see him running in 2020.  He could run in 2024 or 2028 though.

why does everyone keep acting like a Hindu woman is a viable presidential candidate?

This country just elected Donald Trump. I don't think conventional wisdom about who is supposedly "electable" is relevant anymore.

Honest answer - she doesn't "seem" foreign. She wears "American" clothes, speaks "American" English. You probably couldn't identify her ancestry just by looking at her.

Not to mention the fact that she's served in the armed forces.

Generally, I don't think people are actually racist to genuinely care what religion others are, as long as they "fit in." Gabbard might have a different background from the majority of Americans, but she isn't an affront to "Americanism" in the eyes of your average swing voter.

She doesn't even have Indian ancestry; her mother converted to Hinduism AFAIK.

It won't matter. There's no one who has the appropriate gravitas to win.

You know who just won the Presidential election, right?!?  Probably the person with the least amount of gravitas to ever run for President as a major party candidate in American history.

I'm starting to think you are a really clever parody of a Clinton supporter.

I'm starting to think you're a douchebag, so let's leave these kinds of comments at the door.

Donald Trump projected strength to enough voters to win. I appreciate your optimism, but if you think Kamala Harris has the kind of image that would appeal to these people, you're living in a fantasyland.

I never said anything about Kamala Harris.  Based on what little I know about her, I'd go in the opposite direction.

Al Franken/Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris should be on the ticket in some form. We need to mobilize minorities and appeal to economic populism.

Keep in mind that the current Democratic Party is allergic to white men to the right of Vladimir Lenin.

1. Elizabeth Warren  - appeals to both the Sanders crowd and the tokenism crowd. Might be punished for her neutrality during the primaries though.
2. Kamala Harris - Tokenism galore.
3. Michelle Obama - Trump's victory means that he will not even have to seatwarm a lower office first.
4. Cory Booker - His metrosexuality makes up for not being a female.
5. Julian Castro - These results are only going to embolden the Blue Texas folks.

Unlikely to get the nomination (due to DNC supression):
Bernie Sanders
Tulsi Gabbard
Kanye West

1. Elizabeth Warren - I don't think she'll run, but she's really the only one who stands out from the field.
2. Tulsi Gabbard - Bernie bros love her, Hillary hacks generally don't mind her, young, strong personal narrative, and easy to make a case for.
3. Sherrod Brown - A good combination of uber-liberal Midwest progressive. Not sure about his charisma, though, and that could hold him back.
4. Kamala Harris - An unknown nationally with a lot of room to grow.
5. Al Franken - A good foil to Trump, but do we really want to stoop to the point of having an election between two old white men who are former TV stars?

Hillary folks hate Tulsi Gabbard more than anything. Most Democrats are opposed to Syrian operatives in Congress.

3. Kirsten Gillibrand
4. Andrew Cuomo
5. Sherrod Brown (down here because he has to win reelection in 2018 first)

I'd be fine with any of those 5 outstanding progressives.

You guys have to think outside of the box on this one.  No one would've said Trump before 2016.  It could easily be an outsider.

Tim Kaine ....has Zero chance (he's very qualified- but was an awful VP pick.. I said when Veepstakes was going on that Castro or Booker would ensure Hillary wins/ whereas Kaine makes it a toss up.  And I still 100% believe that).

Elizabeth Warren ....I also think Warren has no real shot & much more limited appeal in a primary that many people think.  To me, she is the Chris Christie of the Dem Party (Way over-hyped when it comes to actual chances... I never thought Christie had a realistic shot, even before bridgegate).  Also, if a Progressive wing candidate is chosen...I think Sherrod Brown would easily get the nom over Warren. And Warren would easily lose to Trump IMO.

Top 5 (taking into consideration the Primary map, etc)

1. Cory Booker
2. Sherrod Brown
3. Castro
4. Gillibrand
5. Hillary (tie)
5. Bernie (tie)
