That's what we need.  A hapless blue dog from a Deep Trump state to alienate the coalition we have while not attracting any of the working class voters we've lost.

Dean is really the only good choice here.

Is he though?

Dean appears washed up to me. Whats wrong with bringing new blood into the DNC like Ellison?

Howard Dean was a fantastic DNC chair, but he is Yesterday's Man.  We ran a lot of has-beens this year (virtually all of whom lost), and I think it's time for some new blood, and who better than a young Muslim congressman from Minnesota with a reliably progressive voting record?

Selecting Keith Ellison would certainly send a signal that the Democratic Party gets 'it'.

Nah, Ellison is the obvious choice.

It does the exact opposite. We lost because we both alienated white working class voters and didn't turn out minorities. The DNC is a full time job, which Ellison can't commit to as a Congressman. Ellison should be chair of the DCCC or co-chair of the DNC with him as the public face of the party and Dean in charge of actual operations, similar to the format of the '90s.

That's a good point, and I can certainly live with this arrangement.

Kander has genuine talent; he's not the usual useless red state blue dog like Landeriu (however you spell it) or Nelson; he's got genuine talent (and outperformed Hillary much more so than every other losing Senate Dem)

People are making a big mistake with this; as much as it's about electing a vision we need someone who is competent. Running the DNC requires skills that otherwise great politicians lack- hence why every DNC chair is hated by their own party.

We need someone like Rahm Emmanuel

Is this the same Rahm Emmanuel who is about to be chased from his job as Chicago mayor by angry voters with pitchforks?

Someone like Rahm is literally the last person capable of rebuilding bridged within the party. Not to mention he was on the wrong side when opposing Dean's 50 states strategy.

I'd prefer Dean, but it appears everyone in power is going behind Ellison, so I guess I support Ellison. Hopefully he can pull off a renewed 50 state strategy.

Heard that Schumer is throwing his support behind Ellison too.

Schumer's just trying to follow the direction of the wind. He knows his time is coming soon too if he doesn't reform himself as well. Better to join the future earlier rather than later.

Personally, I've been a supporter of Keith Ellison for a while now. He's one of the best Democrats we have and, while I think something like a Presidential run would (unfortunately) be too controversial, he could do enormously good work as head of the DNC.

Schumer: "I'd better not have anyone looking too closely at what I stand for. If I support Ellison, they won't bother to go after me now."

Rahm should be good at uniting diverse groups like white progressives and BLM. Against him.

Who better to win by the support of working class Whites than a former Black Nationalist who converted to Islam in college.

i think centrists schumer and reid know what they are doing and sanders backs it too.

as long as the democratic party doesn't get as antisemite as labour, i am optimistic.

It's going to be interesting to see the split between state parties and the DC powers in this one

As long as Ellison quits congress I'd be happy with him- maybe O'Malley as a bridge between him and Dean.

An anti-semite leading the Democrat Party.  Just what they need to move to the center, obviously.

he is not an anti-semite, but i fear he is going to sent mixed signals regarding anti-zionism. (bad enough)

otherwise a populist from the great lakes/rust belt is perfect right now.

One of the reasons Sanders was so successful in Illinois was because he tied Clinton to Emmanuel and tied himself to anti-Emmanuel forces.

Emmanuel would never fly, too pragmatic, willing to get things done instead of chasing pie in the sky.
