As long as the new DNC chair isn't obnoxiously incompetent like DWS was, I'm fine with anyone as the next chair.

The Dems need more than competence. They also need willpower. If they constantly knuckle under to the GOP while the political Overton Window slides away from them, they'll end up losing a good chunk of their potential supporters, while gaining nothing. Hillary just demonstrated this perfectly.

Tom Perez would be a very strong DNC Chair. He pushed O'Malley to victory in 2006, by a margin almost 5% greater than was thought likely.

Selfishly I'd like to see Perez challenge Hogan, but he would also be a very good DNC Chair.

Very much agreed!

I do like Ellison for chair, but at the same time, I don't want the next chair to have any personal problems or history that would make them the focus of the media. They need to be bland and boring. Anything else just gives conservatives something to attack us on. Whoever the next chair also needs to be able to form a competent and effective strategy for 2018 and beyond, so I suppose that is really the most important goal here.

I hope my party doesn't screw this up too. It's time they understand that the old way of doing things is finished.

I'm a little unclear on if Ellison can be effective DNC Chair. I think the whole "Muslim with potential Israel problem" right after we go full nationalist might not be the most effective way to win back the heartland. But maybe the DNC will surprise me and Ellison will focus on rebuilding the party instead of fog horning on the Sunday shows and effectively articulating the Democratic message.

I'm hoping this isn't myopia by the Left and that Ellison actually gets stuff done. I'm pleased he'll resign from Congress to be a full time Chair. Tentatively, rn, I'd back Tom Perez.

Politico survey of DNC members: Ellison has a clear lead, but overwhelming majority are undecided.

Also, big endorsement for Ellison by Bill de Blasio.

I can't believe the Obama admin has the BALLS to try to meddle in the DNC race after totally gutting its infrastructure in favor of OFA.

What ever happened to ofa? They were hyped up after 2012 when everyone thought Obama had unlocked a permanent majority but after a couple months they went off the map. Same thing with battleground Texas

Pete Buttigieg would be a great DNC Chair. He'd be the second gay major party chairperson, and the first major party chairperson to be out while serving as Chair.

I like Tom Perez, but he's just not right for the DNC chair position. Ellison has the potential to be a great organizer over the next four years, and that's something that I can't see in Perez right now.

A Socialist Jew as a leading Dem face after a Black Muslim Communist Arab Kenyan President & now a racist anit-semite Ellison as DNC Chair - Right?

Remember the attacks on Obama? I am not surprised on these attacks on Ellison. This maybe a fight but the Bernie wing is taking over & when they do, a lot of young people & progressive will come in & revitalize the party throwing out some useless political hacks!

I am okay with these forums where people can share their ideas. Dems won't win with a TPP supporting Perez in the rust-belt.

Ellison spoke for Bernie's Our Revolution thing & he was surprisingly a decent speaker.

Bernie just announced they have got a whopping 600,000 signatures for Ellison as DNC Chair so far - That is pretty decent!

Sorry but why does you supporting a trade deal (that would have strengthened US-Asian relations, improved Labor standards in Asia and been generally good for the US) make you a weaker candidate for an election to what is an internal party post!

I know I've ranted about this before but we're not electing a policy platform- we're picking someone who is frankly going to spend the next 4 years mostly sat behind a desk, making phone calls to Donors etc I know people want to redo the primaries but this is getting stupid.

Reince Priebus was a minor party chair who got Scott Walker elected; he didn't appeal to those who voted Trump, he wasn't a raging populist but he was a decent party chair. It's an internal job

Perez vs. Ellison is a very hard choice for me. I like them both.

I guess it will come down to who I think has the best strategy for the party. I don't care about political leanings, that's not the DNC's role, and if Ellison tries to make it about that I would probably support Perez.

New public state party chair and vice chair endorsements for Ellison include:

Jim Larson (Montana State Party Chair)
Mark Hammons (Oklahoma State Party Chair)
Victoria Jackson-Stanley (Maryland State Party Vice Chair; Mayor of Cambridge, MD)
Larry Murakami (Alaska State Vice Chair)
Cordelia Lewis Burks (Indiana State Party Vice Chair)
Joe Lowe (South Dakota State Party Vice Chair)

Source

These are the big endorsements, as these folks actually have voting power.
