Emmanuel would never fly, too pragmatic, willing to get things done instead of chasing pie in the sky.

HRC was the same and the public hated her for it.

An anti-semite leading the Democrat Party.  Just what they need to move to the center, obviously.

Huh

I guess if you are Muslim you are automatically an anti-semite in the Republican world.

he said silly things in the past (similar case with many muslims, like the new mayor of london) and tries to criticize the palestinians and the israelians at the same time.

since i thing the palestinians deserve a bigger share of blame, i disagree but i don't think is should disqualify him.

I said someone like Rahm- not rahm Tongue

As I said before we're applying a political, personal view to what is existentially a CEO position- did Reince Prebius tick any boxes, excite any wings or build a groundswell of support when he was elected? Of course not.

My point is that Rahm was great as the DCCC (in the same way Dean was great as DNC but is being throw off as 'muh lobbyist') We don't need someone who makes us feel good- we need someone who can be a complete bastard for the next 4 years

I worry about Keith Ellison being a Congressman, though. Wouldn't it show that he's serious and actually honest if he promises to leave Congress if elected Chairman?

As long as Ellison quits congress I'd be happy with him

I'd actually be fine with that, provided that Ilhan Omar replaces him.

Ilan Omar sounds awesome -has she expressed interest in running for Keith Ellison's seat if he became DNC chair?

She hasn't even taken state legislative office yet. What do you think?

I highly doubt Ellison will resign even if he gets the spot but if he does I can think of multiple people who'd be interested in the seat with far more clout than Omar.

Yes, let Keith Ellison dig the democrats an early grave.  I mean yeah, Progressives love having diversity in their party but is he right for the job? You're going to see the Democrats take a huge turn to the left and they will fail even more against the Republicans. I'm really excited to see more conservatives in office!! Keith Ellison is a Trojan horse.

you miss the point that a big part of mister trump's shtick is to be far left of the democratic party in some key areas.

i absolutely agree with your assesments of the rust belt.

at the same time the party must not throw away the urban/educated vote....

the job of republicans, who only work for one group of the electorate - even if it's the biggest one - was always easier than building alliances.

It's not uncommon than not for a party chairman to serve in office.

That's true, and yet this time, they need someone who will dedicate all his time for the job. I really doubt he can perform perfectly as both a Congressman and Chairman.

It's entirely within the party's best interest electorally to take a "huge turn to the left"; for the party to win in places like Ohio and Iowa again, they're going to have to become a true worker's party that rejects neoliberalism and embraces left-wing fiscal policies. Sanders would've won the rust belt (and thus the election) had he been nominated this year. Clintonism is the reason the Party has lost so much ground in the Midwest and similar areas across the country.

That's bull. Bill Clinton won those states in 1992 and 1996. Why then? Why did Clinton/Gore win those states and not Clinton in 2016, when NAFTA was still around in '96?

Keith Ellison is clearly anti-Semitic if that noted Jew-hater Chuck Schumer supports him. Roll Eyes

That article from 2006 does an amazing job of explaining why Congressional Democrats are lining up behind Elsion instead of Dean: they want one of their own in charge. We need Howard Dean.

Does anyone know how much influence state parties have vs the DC insiders?

I mean seriously, I'm sure Ellison would do fine, but we just lost an election because we nominated the choice of DC's insiders, so let's fix that by nominating the choice of DC insiders

Yet he's also the choice of MoveOn and Sanders.

And every argument for his nomination has to do with how he would provide a "stark contrast with Trump and a progressive vision," relying solely on identity politics, which is part of the reason we lost. DNC chair is a full-time administrative role, which isn't something Ellison can commit to as a Conressman. His job isn't to promote a message, it's about mechanics and having an effective tech system. It's about assessing the needs of the state parties to pick good candidates.

Ellison has too much momentum to be stopped at this point.
