So who is it that's actually voting? How many people?

The 447 members of the DNC.
Ok.

Someone told me it was anyone who ever signed up for and donated to the DNC. And I was like, "wait, I 'joined' them online and gave them $10 in August, I get to vote?" Tongue Ok, it is what I originally thought.

Out of curiosity, who (s)elects those 447?

Most (~70%) are chosen by state parties, and the rest are chosen by national Dem groups or the Chair.
-112 spots go to state party chairs and vice chairs (from 50 states, 6 territories)
-208 are chosen by state parties (allocated by population, factoring in Democratic voters), and can be chosen in a variety of methods depending on the state (elections, conventions, etc)
-48 for national groups like College Democrats, YDA, or groups representing elected officials (this also includes the 9 DNC office holders)
-4 for Democrats Abroad
-75 appointed by the DNC Chair

So the Bernie takeover of the CA Democratic Party did make a difference, however marginal in the grand scheme of things. I'm curious who makes up the California delegation.

I hope we choose Pete.

1. He's a solid choice and straightforward.
2. He would put an end to the proxy primary fight.

I can live with this, tbh.

Moderates like Buttigieg, Progressives like Buttigieg. There is literally no downside to him winning. I just can't imagine the DNC members picking him over Ellison or Perez though and that is a damn shame.

Why is Buttigieg suddenly in vogue? What happened with Ellison?

Buttigieg would also be the second gay Chair of a major party. The mafia is working overtime to get him elected. Let's go kick Ellison's and Perez's butt[igieg]s!

And the first one to be open about it during his chairmanship.

He hasn't openly acknowledged the gay mafia, though.

I do wonder if there is a good spot in the behind the screens of the DNC for Buttigieg to work with Keith to build a grass roots plan for 2018

I'm still heavily rooting for Ellison, but I actually really like Buttigieg. TBH if both of them teamed up behind-the-scenes like Hindsight described, I'd be really enthusiastic about the party over the next 4 years. That, and I think either one of them could become a presidential candidate in the future.

Still, Ellison's the only one who's really talked about a 50-state strategy and less corporate influence, so he's got my support.

I know it's probably a longshot, but I really hope Pete Buttigieg wins at the end of the day.

NYT: Neither Perez nor Ellison has anywhere close to a majority, while Buttigieg is taking flak from other lower-tier candidates.

Is there a comprehensive list of how individual DNC members have pledged their votes?

I know the ODP chairman is for Perez and the Mayor of Dayton (originally from IN) is for Buttigieg.

It's a secret ballot. We're not supposed to know.

The importance ascribed to this position seems grossly exaggerated to me. Why all the fuss?

People are hungry for elections.

Also, neither Schumer nor Pelosi are particularly inspiring, so there's a leadership void for the party as a whole

I don't know how you look at the democratic party the past 8 years and not exaggerate this position. Also, this position will be the face of the opposition to Trump. I think I want someone who inspires and activates people to get involved.
