This is absolutely appalling. Carson has no business being anywhere near our nation's education system. The man is a hyper-religious nutjob who peddles conspiracy theories and intolerance towards free speech and the right of women to control their own reproductive health. Anyone who denies the scientific validity of evolution and global climate change is a total moron. I guess the Religious Right will get their dream of seeing us regressing backwards into a Christian version of Saudi Arabia.

Never going to happen even if the DoE actually tried to dismantle it. The only difference would be that current STEM centers would just find more private funding and schools would be stratified into "STEM" and "not-STEM". The current state of the market is just too good right now for STEM for the fetishism to die in higher ed. Only way this changes is if the job market collapses across the board.

Good, if all the cabinet picks are this terrible, it'll give the Democrats a lot of ammo should they grow a pair and try to block almost anyone Trump nominates for his cabinet.  Sure some of them will get confirmed, but it'll slow things down at least somewhat and some key posts and judgeships may even go unfilled for a while with a little luck.  And Carson is the type of idiot who's going to be a constant embarrassment for the Republicans if/when he gets confirmed.  Screw the President's prerogative to appoint whomever he wants, the Republicans went scorched earth in a similar situation under Obama and deserve the same even worse treatment.
