Wow.

Australia 4-8 after Philander went nuts.

http://www.cricket.com.au/news/match-report/australia-south-africa-second-test-report-highlights-video-steve-smith-faf-du-plessis/2016-11-12

Now we are 5-18 and the captain Steve Smith just ran into Philander and sent him off the ground injured.

This is the cricket equivalent of a Donald Trump victory.

SA doesn't even need Steyn with Philander and Rabada. Nothing gives me more joy than to see Aus suffer. Smiley

9-85.

TV has been turned off. I cannot watch anymore.

It's like a Trumpslide at a pro-democrat celebration party with 19 year old women crying.

Who do you blame for Australia fall from the heights they were from 1999-2008. I blame Ricky Pointing because as soon as Gilchrist, Hayden,Warne, McGrath left they started sucking. I mean Micheal Clarke took Pointing team which was 5th and took them to ashes whitewash and world cup victory.

We just dont have any players who have been there for long enough.

Two on debut, many with less than 10 tests under their belt.

And these new South African bowlers and fielders are off the chart. They really look sharp at all levels in comparison.

Any team was going to struggle after losing those players- not only did they lose players from all over the team but genuinely good cricketers like MacGill (who was a world class spinner just never payed)

I still content the 2005 ashes series was the best test series ever played

Er... you can't just conjure up great players from nowhere. Talent doesn't work like that. Australia had a glut of talent and then one day they didn't. It happens. At present they aren't a bad side, just not a great one. Tbh Australia has managed the inevitable decline better than the West Indies Sad Sad Sad

I think I remember Viv Richards saying aomething similar. He said something like "Australia is not a bad team; not by any stretch of the imagination. The wow factor's just not there anymore". I'm inclined to agree. You're only going to find players like Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, Michael Clarke and Mitchell Johnson once in a few decades.

Here's mine

1. Gilchrist
2. Pointing
3. Warne
4. Waugh
5. McGrath

Test:

1) McGrath (only quick to take over 500 wickets)
2) Warne (Greatest leg spinner in the world)
3) Ponting (great batsman and a fine captain)
4) Waugh (Steve, that is. A solid, dependable all-rounder and a damn good captain)
5) Lee (was a great bowler, and could score handy runs)

ODI:
1) Gilchrist  (Greatest ODI player ever)
2) Mark Waugh (very good all-rounder; frequently opened; could bowl handy off spin)
3) Glenn McGrath  (need a reason?)
4) Darren Lehmann  (solid all-rounder; good batsman and could bowl handy spin)
5) Brad Hogg (became out number 1 ODI spinner in 2003; could take key wickets and score handy late-innings runs)

As a side note, I wasn't aware that so many Americans watched cricket.

well when i visit india i watch cricket and my dad followed cricket a lot then so I know about it. Though I know more 2000-2012 players then current.  I though Warne was better then McGrath since he took more wickets.

Yeah The first cricket series i ever watched was the 2005 ashes, and my grandfather calling it stunning that Australia lost

One person we need to add to the list of great Australian batsman is Steve Smith.

I saw him live 12 months ago against India at the WACA, and with Virhat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, we witnessed three of the world's top batsman.

But one thing which surprises about Steve Smith live is just how fast the ball comes off the bat.

It's incredible to watch.

Clarke was better Steve Smith. He scored 329 which could have easily been 400+ , took Australia from 5th in world and embarrassing ashes defeat at home to ashes white wash victory and number one/number two team in world in 3 years. Plus on the odi side he took them from Quarter Final Defeat to World Cup victory in 4 years.

Steve Smith currently averages over 58, so he may end up 2ndnbehind Bradman.

Voges will lose his average now he is starting to flop.
