The bulk of the blame should lie with Podesta and Hillary herself. However, Comey's letter did real damage, and his behavior was unprofessional and wrong. The election was close enough that it probably made the difference. A 2% swing to Clinton(roughly the amount lost in the polls after the Comey letter) would have given Clinton 307 EVs and a big popular vote win.

Comey was the straw that broke the camel's back, I don't doubt it cost the 100,000 in the Midwest. But it was going to be a tight election even before that.

All the above.

As I said before: Comey is the straw that broke the camel's back.

The sexist boys at the FBI could not stand having H as their boss, so agency continues its meddling and ratf--king behavior inherited from J Edgar himself. I believe Comey was in touch with Trump ally Bill Bennett since at least the start of 2016, and told to whip up rumors of H's imminent indictment so Comey could justify his ad production for Trump campaign in July. When this failed to sink H, they scrambled to plan B. The only surprise in retrospect is that we were surprised by any of this. H probably thought she was covered due to her support from generals and CIA but like Diane Feinstein she underestimated the misogyny of the macho deep state culture.

The back was already in massive pain before Comey.

Difficult to say.

Comey's letters (including the second one, tailor made to the conspiracy theorists) had a decidedly negative effect on the voters.

Podesta & Co. Should in retrospect have devoted more resources to softening and improving her image as opposed to trashing Trump.

The administration also had a big role.  Why Obama and Lynch ever got into a situation, where Comey calls the shots is beyond me. Bill Clinton certainly didn't help with that airport meeting.

But ultimately all this would not have had an effect if Clinton herself did not have so many negatives. I do think that she is a good person but losing to someone like Trump must be viewed as a major candidate failure.

Hillary Clinton is to blame for Hillary Clinton's defeat. Her campaign was just cliches and platitudes; she picked a horrible VP; she took states like Wisconsin for granted; and she failed to engage disaffected Bernie supporters.

She deserved to be beaten.

Politicians always blame others for their defeat, just not themselves.

It's sad to see that she's back to being the old scarecrow to voters she always was ...

Perhaps.  But it's equally clear that Comey's treachery was a decisive factor in HOW she was beaten.

When you consider where he won, I think it's a Trump win more than a Clinton loss, considering she still won the popular vote. His rural voters came out in force like we've never seen before. I thought Hillary had Florida locked up based on the early vote and her record 30-point margin in Miami-Dade.

Let's remember Comey would not have been  problem if not for Hillary's own actions.

There were many reasons why Hillary lost and, naturally, people who failed epically along her, like Podesta, will be looking for any other excuse than taking their share of responsibility.

Make no mistake, I abhor Comey's questionable at best behavior, but pinning it all on FBI may be comforting, but is stupid.

if comey wanted to indict her, he should have done it in summer.

first giving her a pass and then kill her path to the presidency if madness.

but i don't care anymore, over is over.
