How did Cortez-Masto manage to hold the senate seat while only winning Clark, and getting demolished in a lot of the counties?

Like 85% of all votes in Nevada come from Clark and Washoe, she won Clark by about 11 points and only lost Washoe by 1 point.

It's time to start a plan to get the remaining California conservatives to move en masse to Nevada.  California would lose electoral votes too.

Anyway, the answer is that Clark is the majority of the state's population. Notice that of the four districts, two are entirely in Clark and another is dominated by it. Rural Nevada is one of the most empty parts of the US.

Clark county is an unstoppable force. Nevada is a blue state.

Clark has 73% of Nevada's population as of the 2015 census estimates.

By 2020 it's expected to be slightly over 74%.

Together Clark and Washoe have 89% of the state's population.

Someone vandalized the Wikipedia article for the Senate election by writing that Democrats brought out illegal immigrants to vote for Catherine Cortez Masto.

There are neither farms nor fancy beaches in Nevada. None of the remaining conservatives in California are interested.

Surprisingly, Trump had coattails, and Heck didn't grab onto them. It's also what did Ayotte in. That and Harry Reid's machine is ruthless.

SW is becoming more Democratic than the nation as a whole. While Clinton managed to bungle Pennsylvania.

That's why Heller and Flake in a Republican administration midterm are very vulnerable.

Ayotte lost by about 2,000 less votes than Trump did.
