Add in plenty of Democratic infighting and the fact that Swearengin took 24% in the Controller race with another Republican taking 22%? I think that if Faulconer truly reversed course and suddenly ran with Swearengin (basically calling a truce quietly) they could definently create a Washington State Treasurer race 2.0.

Though very early, great to see Newsom up.

Faulconer declined to run, by the way.

Its mostly name recognition, I think. Everyone knows Newsom, despite his relative youth he's been in politics for a while. Not a lot of people know Steyer or Chiang, for example.

well, we'll see if he sticks with that decision.

I hope Garcetti jumps in and gains more momentum - Newsom is kind of gross.

Please don't let there be two Republicans and lots of Democrats.

Yes. Minor random people, especially for governor/senator, pick up a decent number of votes though. They're not usually polled though, so it adds to the uncertainty.

Gavin Newsom is going to be the next Governor of California. I've known for over a decade now that he would ultimately end up there.

Alright with me. I was on board his brief Gubernatorial run in 2010, so Newsom is good in my book

Although if Garcetti were to run, I could easily see myself supporting him

I'd like California to have a competent technocratic Asian-American governor, so I'm still with Chiang.

I'd be fine with Newsom, would of backed him last time if not for Brown Running. Plus this time he has a bit more name recognition, something that kind of hurt him back in 2010.

Chiang might be a smarter, Newsom is just too talented as a politician.
