Should David Duke mount a primary challenge in 2020? His anti-establishment , anti-political correctness message might resonate with the republican core constituency

He'd win. All he has to do is say every so often that he's not a racist. Moderate Republicans will see him as the lesser of two evils against a corrupt, elitist Democrat. It's the economy, stupid.

Yeah, because the only reason people don't vote Democrat is because they see them as "elitist."

LOL, you have a truly cute opinion of what your party is.  Wealthy Whites aren't voting Republican because they think those damn Democrats are too elitist.  College educated Whites aren't voting Republican because they think Democrats are elitist.  Suburbanites (of which Trump won and Congressional Republicans won even more handily) aren't voting Republican because they want a folksy party.  A whole lot of people out there think your party doesn't benefit them personally whatsoever and see its base as just simply weird as shlt, LOL.

What's your point?  I am making the point that Hagrid seems to think it is only a bunch of stupid rubes rejecting the Democrats' SJW platform (ya know, the ones not enlightened enough to embrace it), and facts just don't back that up.

Wow. Is this supposed to be a "defense" of the Republican Party? "Rich white people vote for us too!"

Traditionally one wouldn't mount a primary challenge unless they have objections to the incumbent, so this isn't happening.

David Duke loves Trump and, I take it, enjoys having him as president somewhat, so he won't challenge him.

If Trump doesn't start violently purging colored people, Duke and his crowd will likely turn on him. We'll see.

I think a good pathway to making a reasonable run in 2020 would have been to actually win the Senate seat in LA this year.

David Duke's whole hustle is fundraising.  He's not a serious candidate these days.

In the 1980s, before the internet, I used to call newsrooms of Southern newspapers and ask their political reporters as to the state of races.  A Louisiana reporter told me back then that David Duke could be elected to Congress from a Northern Louisiana district (extremely conservative whites and less black than other districts) if he chose to.  He never chose to.  His race for Governor was a fluke; he finished second because a Democratic Governor (Buddy Roemer) switched to the GOP late in the game (a stupid move in hindsight), allowing Duke to finish second in a "jungle primary".  (Duke was never the "Republican nominee".)  He's got his hustle.  He plays on like-minded folks and stays low to turn a buck, but he's never going to be a major anything in electoral politics.  Mainly because he's an a-hole.

LOL, I was more quoting other posters ... not advocating its use.

As far as the other poster asking me if this is a "defense" of the Republican Party, no, it is not.  It's bringing to light the fact that you don't have to be absolutely terrible in some way (stupid, greedy, racist, whatever other adjectives you guys project on to everyone who disagrees with you) to reject the Democratic Party.
