This leadership team essentially ticks all the boxes of the Democratic Party coalition, save racial minorities. I think it's a good team and it will benefit the Democratic Party immensely to have such a diversity of views and backgrounds represented.

This -and we better get moving on electing racial minorities to the Senate.  It's a travesty that the only African American and Latino senators in the chamber happen to be conservative Republicans.

Harris and Masto-Cortez?

Harris might very well be the farthest left person in Congress right now.
Yeah, her victory speech was quite left-wing, and I liked it.

This was big, IMO, and shows that the Democratic leadership gets they have a problem.  CHUCK SCHUMER just picked this team ... he picked two unapologetic progressive populists and the epitome of a Blue Dog populist Democrat with appeal to the working class.  Again, if Chuck Schumer sees that this is the path to go, I fear (for the GOP) that Democrats won't take long to at least stop digging their hole.  I think it will probably take a while to get back out of it, but this was a step in the right direction.

From your lips...

I want the ideological monopolies to end so that we can engage in a dialogue about how to put our country forward without partisan lines again.

No more identity politics or tokenism. We are a party of ideas, whether they come from three black dudes, three blond haired evangelicals, or a jew, gay, and an evangelical.

Why is it the only people who don't want our political life to be defined by 'identity politics' tend to be white males?  Has anyone ever wondered about that?

fycking hell...... Identiy poltics, about concerns of middle class women, and illegal immigrants, while no focus on working class, is the the reason to why the democrats lost. You can't say vote for me because you're a woman, and not considering the concerns of the sturggerling white populace and expect to win.

Can Manchin still really play the populist after his daughter was revealed to be Martin Shkreli in drag?

Also, whew, this IDENTITY POLITICS vs POPULISM argument is getting extremely tedious in every single thread.

That's a hilarious statement about California politics considering how the left here thinks she's only somewhat left of moderate.

That's not even remotely true. Harris is stellar, but her record as AG gives me pause. A little bit too "law & order" for my tastes.

Where are those fiscal and economic conservatives? I can only think of a couple off the top of my head. Most conservatives in power at the moment are all about gutting services, increasing defense spending, and gutting the only reliable source of government revenue (taxation) in favor of corporations and big businesses. That is practically the opposite of fiscal conservatism or any fiscally responsible position for that matter.

New Yorker (I expected this)

Lesbian (wasn't expecting this, but not surprising)

Socialist (I thought the party was going to try to marginalize Bernie, I'm surprised!)

A man from WV (I'm truly shocked!)

Forgot about him -he is so light skinned (like congressman George Butterfield) that I overlooked the fact that he's black.

It took me a while to figure it out myself.
