Anybody interested in going, alphabetically, through every district in the House to disuses their history, politics, geography and trends? I would be quite interested to see people discuss the areas they know most well, especially those areas ignored due to not being swingy.

Alabama's 1st district is based in the SW of the state, and is anchored by the city of Mobile and its surroundings. One of the more prosperous and fast growing areas of the state, with a healthy manufacturing sector; this was one of the first areas in the state to trend to the GOP, electing conservative anti-busing Republican Jack Edwards during the 1964 sweep. All the incumbents have had very long terms with very little distinction. The current incumbent, Bradley Byrne is an Alabama moderate (he was accused of not supporting creationism enough when he ran for governor). So yes, any maps or fun people know about this area?

One of the few parts of Alabama I've been to. I don't really remember much though. I know part of it was part of the Republic of West Florida back in the day. Also I approve of this series.

My grandparents lived in this district.  Had some of the most beautiful beaches.

I'd like to see the African-American sections of Mobile linked into the "black belt" district and, then, hopefully, see the creation of a separate Jefferson County only minority-opportunity swing district.

Although Hillary did terribly here, Dems have a solid base--it's just that this district seems more inelastic than some other areas of the state...

Not much of Alabama is particularly elastic...

This is the only Alabama district I haven't been to, but it seems like a nice enough place.

Honestly Democrats will never win it because of how inelastic S. Alabama voters are. Baldwin County seems to be historically Republican too, like it trended that way far before the rest of the state did.

Only problem with this is the district lines have changed, so 1960 might not be te same district it is today.

Yeah, in a lot of states the numbers that represent each area's congressional district change quite frequently.

I know jack-all about Alabama, but greatly support this idea on the whole. One suggestion, though. Call it, "Better Know a District" going forward.

Yeah, no district with Baldwin County in it is going to be remotely competitive.

I checked out the other districts on Wikipedia, and they all say Trump won 63%-35% each, except for the 7th, which they have at 63%-34% Clinton.  Definitely looks fraudulent.  Tongue
