Per Twitter, Kaine is running again and will not run for Pres/VP in 2020

The only way this race becomes competitive is if Comstock runs

If I were her I'd just go for it as she's vulnerable in her House seat, which may even be a point or so to the left of the entire state.

Kaine will probably be fine, but he does need to actually campaign and not make whatever mistake Warner made.

I suspect he'll smash whoever runs against him just like he smashed George Allen to bits in 2012.

Her district is now 5 points more democratic than Virginia btw

Expected, but good - looking forward to campaigning for him.

Comstock would win unless Sarvis runs for this as well or Trump's disapprovals are over ~56%.

And she won by about six points? That's impressive.

Virginia is gone for Republicans. Kaine probably would have won with Clinton in the White House as well. That being said, I think Comstock should give it a try.

Comstock chances of holding office in Senate came to an end when Clinton was defeated and no Special election against Bobby Scott.

Not quite yet. Trump did poorly among NOVA Republicans, and lost votes to Johnson or McMullin. And yes, I also believe that Kaine being on the ticket helped. I am not giving up on the Old Dominion just yet, Democrats will NOT snatch it away forever without a good fight! Comstock for Senate 2018!

Comstock would be the best candidate Republicans could field, but she'd probably still lose by about the same margin as Allen in 2012.

Since there won't be a special election to fill this seat, I think Comstock might decide to stay put and run for statewide office in 2021.

Barbara Comstock would be the best recruit for the GOP of the 2018 cycle if she runs.

Speaking as a Democrat, the potential Senate candidate that scares me the most is probably Kasich.

Likely D without Comstock. Lean D with her. Republicans really can't get the benefit of the doubt here after being basically shut out of every statewide race since like 2008.

I have a feeling that he wouldn't have run in this case, though.

Republicans could only barely keep him under double-digit MoV. Likely D.
