Federal contractors aren't private business owners making decisions that only concern their company. While I support this for private businesses, federal contractors are a completely different thing.

Ew. Am I reading this right or am I misinterpreting your comment?

You support the right for private business owners to fire people based on their sexual orientation?

Hoping the dems filibuster this. A religious exemption for employment is only merited for those businesses that specifically deal with religion.

Terrible.  Hopefully now that it's coming out, it will be killed.  I believe it will.

Pass TPP? Confirm Garland? (Yes I know both of those are pipe dreams, but if they want to actually do something good for the country in their final weeks, well, there you go.)

Whose to say that this is just for sexual orientation?

Oh please! That requires real work and compromise!! Analysing tons of documents, lots of late nights working and discussion of policies. It's to hard for them.... Poor things...

I've always hated it when people list "doesn't care about social issues" as a positive thing about Republican politicians.

Hopefully the Senate can torpedo it.

Is it possible it could be ruled unconstitutional under grounds of equal protection?

No, since it just gives religious organizations the same exemptions they had under the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Or think "Doesn't care about social issues" and "Is to the left on social issues" to be the same thing.

That’s a text-book definition of bigotry. And unconstitutional. Congress should focus on real problems. Sad!

Ah, and so the re-legalization of discrimination begins. Of course, they'll declare it's simply about freedom, willfully ignoring or simply using America's long history of cloaking bigotry under the guise of liberty. Anti-LGBTQ discrimination should never be tolerated and can never be justified. We don't want your religious and fear fueled bigotry; take it somewhere else.

If this amendment is unconstitutional, then so are the sections of the Civil Rights Act and Americans with Disabilities Act that it references.

Not neccesarily. There is such thing as suspect classes and the Fourteenth Amendment. Marjorities typically aren't suspect classes and First Amendment issues can be seen as different from Fourteenth Amendment isdues.

This is exactly what I'm afraid of. As much as I hate that eczema commercial that says "See me" over and over again, that's really what it boils down to. Am I and people like me really that scary?
