LBJ was easily more charismatic than Goldwater.

You kidding, Dukakis might very well be the least charismatic Democrat of them all, barring Stevenson.

Can 2000 be a tie?  Tough to tell whose Southern accent sounded more forced.

Yes, but his opponent was a Jeb that won.

Really? All the campaign stuff I saw was more like some demented Mr. Rogers, all Jeb could pull off was a robot.

And don't tell me "Kinder, Gentler Nation" doesn't have some pull to it.

In 1948, Truman was only more charismatic than Dewey in the context of that specific campaign because the former decided to go all in and the latter chose to play it safe. By any other standard, Dewey was more charismatic which is partially why everyone thought he would win.

If charisma=speaking ability, then 1952 and 1956.

Pretty much every Democrat wins that, besides the triad of the 80's [Two went up against Reagan the Actor, and Dukakis was actually bad] and McGovern.

Herb may be a Low Energy Loser, but he's surely more charismatic than the Duke!

Probably the only years that count are 1968 and 1972. Pretty much since Hoover America has gone for the Higher Energy candidate, as someone's #analysis on AAD pointed out.

EDIT: You could argue 76, but that's kinda a 1988 like situation.

1972 and 1976.

Ties: 1940, 1968, 2000, 2004

Bush was ten times more charismatic than Gore or Kerry, and Carter was definitely more charismatic than Ford.

I don't know how people could possibly consider Bush to be less authentic and charismatic than Al Gore..
