That will be really helpful for working class voters. Say what you want, but Trump is a businessman with a history of not paying for work that has been done, so it would not be surprising if he did away with overtime pay.

This is something I would suspect the Congressional GOP would be more excited about than Trump.

And this is why nobody trusts the media (or why I usually ignore the OP's threads).

This is exactly why conservatives and Republicans are not champions of the working class even though they push that idea ad nauseum.

Trump might sign TPP and privatize New Deal and Great Society programs even though he campaigned against doing that.

The way overtime rules for salaried employees work, they are wonky to implement.  Under the proposed rule a person getting a $800/wk salary who works 50 hours gets $880, not the $1100 a person getting $20/hr gets.  That's because the base hourly rate for a salaried employee is the salary divided by the total hours worked, not the salary divided by 40.  The overtime rules don't add that much to pay, but they did promise to make more work for payroll accountants.

I am jus hoping this helps people get avoid getting stiffed from even minimium wage. Say you are paid $35000(some jobs as lawyers or programmers only pay that much!) a year and you are kept after 3 hours each day and have to come in half days on Saturday because your team is always behind. That's a 64 hour work week. 35000÷ (176*40*(64÷40)÷ 12 ) = $10.37 an hour. That's lower than the MW is in a few states and likely lower than it will be once Dems are relevant again and new MW is passed.

There's nothing barring a State from doing so on their own. The way the Federal law on wage and overtime rules are written, an employee gets the benefit of whatever is the more beneficial of Federal or State law.
