We should just scrap everything, and rebuild the nation under the Führer.  No more elections!

I really do not want this, both sides knew the rules before the election. There also needs to be some consequence for a party who thought many of the Midwestern States were a lock for them and also thought they could win solely based on demographics.

By the 2030s, demographics should carry the electoral college for Democrats but the House and Senate will be tricky to impossible if they rely solely on demographics.

Also, if the electors choose Clinton, she would become even more controversial after a quarter century of negative publicity. I do not know if democrats could sustain another horrific midterm.

Plus on top of that, the final decision would be sent to the House of Representatives.

Just let Donald Trump be President...

No, this election has consequences that need to play out for all sides.

Also, 2020 will be that much harder to take back if someone besides trump were to take office.

That's awfully desperate when you start pleading with the Presidential Electors to vote against the choice the people of their state made.

But of course, that's about what I would expect from supporters of crooked Hillary.

This Desperation Tactic = Major Fail.

To be clear, these folks seem to be aware that convincing enough Trump electors to defect to swing the election is probably hopeless.  Their tactic is more aimed at convincing enough Clinton electors to defect to Sanders or someone else that it draws national media attention to the stupidity of the electoral college.

Reminds me of a 1960 Oklahoma faithless elector

By the way, according to the wiki both Washington and Colorado have laws against faithless electors. I don't know details, though.

See, this is why we need to get rid of the electoral college. It's truly disturbing that this sort of blatantly anti-democratic cloakroom scheming is permitted by our Constitution.

Washington just has a $1,000 fine for faithless electors.

According to this, if a Colorado elector tries to vote faithlessly, they get replaced. But logistically, I don't understand how that could happen.

As much as I dislike Trump, I think that this is a horrible idea. If this somehow materializes, it would set a very bad precedent.

So up to seven Clinton electors are going to defect from Clinton as a form of protest against Trump?:

Are these Democratic wannabe faithless electors a bit thick or something? How the hell is Democratic electors not voting for Hillary going to stop Trump being President?

probably hoping it'll encourage republicans to follow suit

not that it's at all likely to work ofc, but if there was ever a time to grasp at any last straw you can, that time is now.

The Electoral College does not have to be abolished, and it won't.

What needs to happen is that the Electors have to be obligated, by law, to vote for the winner of the state for which they are an Elector.

And a 19 year Elector?

Wanting to make a statement?

How stupid is that?

I like this post a lot. My only quibble is that we can't speak in total certainty about the future of our country, let alone the EC.

Thank you.

You are, of course, correct that we cannot say anything about the future with absolute certainty.

However, I think we can all agree that the abolition of the Electoral College would be a very long, drawn out, bitter affair.

And constitutionally, I believe I can say that more likely than not, at least in the immediate future, and by that I mean a considerable length of time, that any attempt to abolish the Electoral College is more likely to fail than to succeed.
