It should be more centrally located and in at least a "purple" area. I suggest the area near the borders of KS, NE & MO.

DC has an undue influence on the states of MD & VA because hundreds of thousands of fed govt workers live there and most of them vote Dem.

ignoring your troll-y intentions....

DC's existence makes regions more blue, not the other way around. ^^

This would be a hugely expensive and time-consuming process, and all for partisan reasons.

So wouldn't they just start turning the new states Democratic then? And what do you mean by KS, NE & MO being a "purple" area? Those states are not purple states by any means.

Honestly the motives behind your idea are just as partisan and ridiculous as how you perceive pro-govt Democrats turning states Democratic.

I suggest Sioux City. Minnesota will be Safe D and Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska will be competitive!

On principle, I have no problem with moving the capitol to the center of the country. Still, you can expect massive resistance from Nebraska Republicans who do not want to see their state become more competitive.

Also be very careful because some of the sentiments of this thread are unnervingly close to the inspiration behind ... Brasilia.

It should be more centrally located

I think that was the point back when they built it in what was otherwise a swampy, undesirable, hard-to-develop area.  Maybe we should do it again, Brasilia-style, and move it to the Missouri River Valley.  In a nod to our newfould alliance with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, we could call it the Columbian Oblast.

Red states have higher rates of food stamp usage, particularly poor Republican counties. Who's really that the trough?

Democrats in 2016:  Defending the honor of lobbyists and federal contractors by slamming the poor!

Oh, dry up. If you take a look at a map, you'll see that some of Trump's best counties have high food stamp usage.

harsh! Sad   get me some moisturizer, quick!

This is peak conservative Facebook meme.

"Folks, our government doesn't understand real Americans because there's none outside their building. Let's move the capital to Lincoln, Nebraska. Or outside Fort Hood so these politicians can learn something from OUR TROOPS. Like if you agree, God bless #MAGA"

Isn't this what happened in Man in The High Castle? Where they moved the nation's capitol inland after the Nazis destroyed D.C.?

Let's dispel with this fiction that people on food stamps are just 'trough feeders' or are on food stamps because of some sort of moral failing.

There is no point.

If it were in NYC or LA or something and you wanted to move it to simplify things a little. A slightly less congested area makes sense in that case. But moving DC as it is would accomplish nothing as the new area would become just like DC is now.

I would like to see a new capital city built, if for no other reason than to feed my hunger for civil engineering and urban planning to collide in an ideal, 21st century, future-thinking designer metropolis.

The sad thing about the world pretty much developing itself to completion is the lack of new cities. Now all we seem to do is build new buildings over old ones. Every twenty years or so a gated subdivision in my home county grows big enough to become incorporated as a city, but that doesn't really count.

I left this as the sole worthwhile post out of the slough I just drained here.
