Only question is, why is Haley taking it?

Haley is delusional enough to think she has a shot at the presidency in the future

She was close enough to done as Governor, nothing good for her future career was going to come of it. This puts a "foreign policy" checkmark on her resume, and provides a potential stepping stone to State. Does anyone think Pussygrabber's administration won't be volatile?

It's kind of sad that the people who were absolutely trashing Trump are now considering working for him, including Romney.

What a joke.

She's 44 so, despite having already won two gubernatorial elections, her career is probably less than half over. So it makes sense for her to think long-term.

Outside of the Cabinet, her only obvious next steps are running for president (which she may not be able to do until 2024) or running for the Senate. Even if she is interested in running for the Senate, she could be blocked by the two Republican incumbents (though Scott could run for governor).

Taking the job gives her foreign policy experience and also positions her to potentially get promoted to SoS (or another Cabinet position) in a potential second Trump term. And being UN Ambassador doesn't have a lot of downside; she wouldn't be exposed to a Benghazi-like situation, for example. Regardless, she's definitely a future presidential candidate, even if she ends up being weeded out in the "invisible primary."

As I pointed out in another thread, even if she wanted to unseat a fellow Republican, there's no Senate race here in 2018. Tim Scott is said to have interest in running for Governor, so perhaps he'll return the favor Haley did him and appoint her to fill his vacancy if he wins the Gubernatorial race.
