In terms of popular vote (as per current results), Trump did barely better than McCain in 2008 (46.4% v. 45.7%), which also makes his number second-lowest for a Republican candidate since Bush Sr. 1988 win.

At the same time he won more electoral votes since GHWB in 1988 (as well as been the only Republican candidate since to surpass 300 Ev's).

46.4% sure isn't much of a popular mandate, especially since polls showed even many of those who voted for Trump disklike him on multiple levels and are concerned--or worse--about a Trump Presidency.

Yeah.. but that's weird. I understand people who voted for the lesser of two evil, but voting for someone who you don't trust, who you don't think has the judgement and the stamina to be president and who you are worried about what he will do, doesn't make any sense at all.

Yep. But of those who felt neither candidate was qualified (14%), Trump won 69-15. Of those who felt neither candidate had the right temperament (14%), Trump won 71-12. Of those who were "concerned" about a Trump presidency (20%), 34% voted Trump. And of the 55% who disapprove of the GOP, 20% voted Trump. Also, I just learned that 15% of Bernie Sanders voters voted Trump.
