Do you prefer 'Czech Republic' or 'Czechia'?

Czech Republic, but Czechia isn't bad.

I prefer whatever the Czechs prefer.  Since there was no referendum, it's hard to say, but seems like they prefer Czech Republic to me.

Czechs themselves use the word "Česko", which I guess, most directly would be rendered in English as "Czech".  Nobody is proposing to rename the country in its own language. And I doubt most Czechs speak English sufficiently fluently to have a position on how the country should be named in the tongue we are speaking here.

It wasn't unknown for Czechoslovakia in the Cold War to be informally referred to here as Czecho.

  I'm guessing my wife and I are one of the few couples in America to have had actual discussions about this issue over the last few years. I've always gone for Czechia, her for Czech Republic.

I'm also one of the rare people to actually think about these kind of things on a regular basis, and I had actually read about it years ago, and learned that the Czechs were kind of annoyed that "Czech Republic" had gained so much traction abroad in English, because they referred to their country as just Česko, and it's been years they wanted this changed. So it's been years I've been using "Tchéquie" in French, and lecturing people who corrected me to "République tchèque" about endonyms and imperialism.

Yes, I'm this kind of guy, and no, I'm not fun at parties.
