Even if he holds on, the fact that this is so close is an extremely ominous sign for Rauner in the general. An energized D base + pissed off hard-right Republicans is a losing combo for him.

Lesser known race: Dan Burke - brother of powerhouse machine alderman Ed Burke - will fall to progressive insurgent Aaron Ortiz

Disgusted.

Combined with the fact that this is an anti-Trump year...

Oh, yeah, Rauner's almost certainly DOA.

I wonder if in the end Ives derogatory ad ultimately did her more damage than benefit.

Aparently she spent a whole lot of money in the Chicago market, but little downstate, probably assuming it was locked up. She ended up doing well in the collar and killing Rauner's base...but is getting matched and defeated in areas of downstate. This looks more like General republican disinterest.

Also right now, about 40% of the remaining precincts are DuPage, so this race probably gets somewhat closer.

Looks like Rauner might become Gillespie V2.0, complete with the tight primary and everything.

Still nothing in with Ogle County.

Rauner won Lee County.

Illinois actually tends to elected Republican governors, Blago was the first Dem to win reelection since Otto Kerner in 1964.

Illinois's blue shift is a relatively recent (last 25 years) phenomenon.

Pre-Clinton though IL was a swing state, with a strong Dem base in Cook, and a Strong R base in the Collars. The New-Dem coalition was targeted at northern suburbs like the collars, and they progressively voted less and less for the dems.

Until Bush Jr, no Republican won the presidency without Illinois.

It did go to Reagan both times, and Bush 42.

We officially have 1,800 gov precincts left uncounted, and 900 of those - 50% of the remaining, are in DuPage.

Serious issues with the machines in DuPage probably won't get results until tomorrow.

We never had these voting issues when DuPage County was run by all Republicans.

Also just realized that there won't be a Green candidate on the ballot, so lefties will have to vote Pritzker, or protest vote with the Libertarian, which they probably won't do.

On DuPage, NYT says there are more precincts, but the state site still says 15% reporting, so I doubt anything changed.

Rauner's LG refers to "us" as the "working class"

Hilarious.
