More like the anti-people's Pat. I would endorse a dog over him.

Rauner says there are "serious concerns" about Trump's immigration dictatoring executive orders that need to be quickly resolved in court, and says he is against targeting people based on their religion, but doesn't outright say it was wrong for Trump to issue the order.

Harris has my endorsement whenever he wants to run for anything, FWIW. One of the few Illinois dems who isn't part of the chicago machine.

Democrats would be making a big mistake running Kennedy.  It would be a pure tossup.  They should nominate someone like Lipinski.

Lipinski is not a real democrat. He didn't even vote for ObamaCare. If Lipinski is the nominee, then Illinois should just reelect Rauner. There isn't much difference between Rauner and Lipinski, so no reason to change.

Its Illinois not West Virginia we don't need to run a pro life and anti SSM candidate to win. Rauner approval is worse than Christie, its going to be a Trump midterm, and IL partisanship give Democrats an edge. With Kennedy this race is Likely D until proven otherwise.

Rauner is even to the left of Lipinski on social issues.  If Lipinski ran, then Rich Whitney or some Green would surely get double digits again.  Is Rauner's approval rating really worse than Christie's?

No. Christie's is more than 10 points below Rauner's.

Dan Lipinski could never make it through a statewide Democratic primary.

This, though I would endorse him if he somehow did. Among the other Dems who haven't already said no, I would support Napoleon Harris, and potentially Dan Hynes. Otherwise IL should just reelect Rauner.

Rauner's as dead as McCaskill, why are we still debating this?

One should not count out a governor this early. Remember that this guy got reelected:

That's what Maine gets for splitting the vote.

His reelection would have still happened if Cutler didn't run in '14.

Y'all do realize Lipinski was a Sanders delegate, right.

If memory serves, he voted for Sanders because Sanders won his district, not because of any personal support he had for Sanders.

Not a big fan of Biss, despite his U of C ties - I remember he was linked to a lot of "pension reform" efforts.

He seems to have come around on that issue. Also, other than this, I've known him to be fairly progressive. Illinois really doesn't have any great candidates to run against Rauner, but I probably agree with Biss more than Kennedy and I think he would do better in a general than Pawar.

I'm holding out hope for Andy Manar, who has a proven record of winning downstate. He's also made a name as a friend of labor, engineered a good plan on school funding, and has made automatic voter registration one of his signature issues in Springfield.

I'd rather Manar run against Rodney Davis, tbh.

Davis isn't beatable, sorry.

I thank governor Rauner for standing up to the people of Illinois, who can't afford a 32% tax increase.

Yeah, I wouldn't vote for someone supporting BDS.

This. In any case, I already endorsed Drury and stand by that.

Since Drury is no longer in the race, I have decided to support Rauner's re-election.

Yes. It's not like there's even a pro life candidate in the race, and Illinois is not Alabama.

I have backed winners before. For example, I endorsed Pat Toomey for re-election.

Why not?  They did before.  Sometimes you take what you can get.  I think there are tons of adamantly pro-choice people in West Virginia who voted for Joe Manchin each time.  (I know you think he is "fake pro-life" or whatever, but your standards are ... well, somewhat unreasonable from a neutral perspetive, IMO.)

Manchin's voting record speaks for itself, I'd say. He's "pro-life" the same way Capito is "pro-choice".

Manchin voted Yes on a bill to ban abortion after 20 weeks: https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=114&session=1&vote=00268
