Former Illinois Treasurer and 2010 Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias should run for governor. He's young, handsome and could win against Rauner.

That sounds like a perfect idea if the Democrats secretly want to lose.

What's wrong with Giannoulias? He only lost to Mark Kirk in a midterm of 2010--a GOP wave year.

Meh, I don't think there was any major "wave" in Illinois.  Pat Quinn still won and the democrats still controlled the state legislature.  The more relevant issue was corruption, coming off Blago and well, many other IL governors that are also in jail.  Giannoulias was a slimey person in that mold and people didn't like him, especially downstate.  He was a senior person in a bank that failed (great resume for Treasurer!) and had problems with giving loans to shady people.  Running a person with a history of ethical issues in a state with a history of corruption sounds like a good idea, never.

From what I've heard, Rauner isn't very popular downstate either. The budget standoffs really hit some of those towns hard.

One of my good friends from Illinois pretty much confirmed Bundou and sjoyce's assessment. He detests Biss because of the pension thing and is probably going to vote for Pritzker because he can self fund against Rauner. When I was surprised that he would take that stance on Pritzker, he just told me "that's just how Illinois is."
