HP.  He should have stayed on, vote against Trump, and urge others to do the same.

All these hyperbolic declarations of the end of the exalted Republic are frankly nauseating.

Glad he did the ethical thing, which was to resign. We have had far worse than Trump in the past; I am not especially worried.

He's a coward, no better than the spineless Vichy worms that have already acquiesced to Trump and his ilk.

Ignoring the kneejerk from the Dems and leftists, this was the best decision. I am against faithless electors in general and believe they should be fined no matter the state.

If you're going to fine them (giving the implication that faithless votes are wrong), why not invalidate faithless votes altogether?

That would also be a good idea if implementable. Would it be done at the state or federal level, though?

Doesn't make it wrong.

I think the best way to eliminate faithless electors would be to eliminate the people factor and just use straight numbers. Not sure how unpledged electors would work though.

The people factor really has no benefit. It's led to this desperate Hail Mary of trying to intimidate electors, but it has never actually made a difference.

That stupid quote in someone's signature from someone named stupid Yankovich is nauseating in the extreme.

He is the racist because he the one calling over 62,000,000 Americans racists.

Moron.

As to the Elector, he did the right thing by resigning, but he did know the rules when he accepted the position.

I disagree.  This was actually the right move on his part.  The people of Texas voted for Trump.  If the former elector couldn't cast his vote as such, then he was correct to resign.  This way, someone who can vote for Trump will replace him.  Smiley

Seems the elector objected for religious reasons. He said something about how he couldn't find justification to vote for Trump in scriptures. Imo one shouldn't look to scripture to figure out how to do your legal and constitutional duty.

Can you read? The tweet adresses people who hate Obama, not people who voted for Trump.
It's telling, though, that you seem to believe that these two groups are identical.

This. The EC is outdated for a long time.

Without moral grounding what the hell is the point? Murder. Torture. Those are valid tools if you lack ethical guidance. I didn't vote for trump because I felt that his views on torture and non combatants were irreconcilable with my religious views.
