He's got terrible approval ratings.  I don't know anything about him really.

Same reason as Martin O'Malley back when he was governor. His solution to budget problems was to raise taxes, which got out of hand quick. Tried  hard to be progressive, which caused some problems. Eventually the budget holes grew and fiscal austerity began. reverse Brownback.

I assume it's a little bit of Column O'Malley and a little bit of Column Shumlin - overly aggressive in passing progressive things and when backed into a corner had to make some tough choices that hurt the state overall.

Republicans probably have a good shot here in 2018.

Coming from a resident of CT, he is unquestionably the worst governor in the nation.  Jerry Bat-Crazy Brown could give him a run for his money, but even Brown would've at least tried to keep GE in the state.  Neither Malloy or the state Democrats took them seriously when they threatened to leave...."oh, that's just talk, they're not serious".  Now they're a MA company....thanks Dan! Because to some people being an ideological hack is more important than good governance.

That's why he might be unpopular among some people, but why he's unpopular in the general sense (and he is very unpopular) has more bipartisan appeal, so to speak. People are very dissatisfied with him in his leadership on the budget especially, as well as businesses leaving the state. He probably couldn't win another term.

Thomas Foley should run again and will win. He is a blue blood Republican, like Bruce Rauner, Mitt Romney, Charlie Baker and Christie Whitman. You need more blue blood white collar educated Republicans.

Because Connecticut is in an economic malaise, and is also a state that is less leftist than its Democratic domination would suggest.

Foley totally blew it in 2014 by being an out of touch rich guy. Connecticut Republicans are probably hoping to nominate someone else.

You think tax increases are popular? Especially multiple ones?

Taxes. Taxes. Taxes. And then he finally has to cut things and then the progressives get pissed off. Pissed off republicans, angry lefties, What do you get? Another Pat Quinn. It was quite obvious when Sanders did well in CT Primary despite being closed, it may have been more a rejection of malloy, since Clinton was endorsed by Malloy.

? Whatever you think of x policy or y policy, the perception of such a thing is awful, evidenced by his trash approval ratings.

No matter where you lie on the political spectrum, Malloy has done SOMETHING to annoy you. Gun grabbing, taxes, the way he handled the budget, ect.

Foley can't win here, IMHO.  It would be his third attempt.

GE left Fairfield because it was in the middle of the suburbs and they wanted a more hip, urban location to attract Millennial workers. Republicans have successfully turned this into "Malloy's taxes drove them out of the state!" and people believe it even though it isn't true. They moved to Boston, if they wanted low taxes they would've moved to Houston or Atlanta.
