New York City mayor Bill de Blasio (D) wins the 2020 Democratic nomination by forcing Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown out of the race, squaring off against centrist John Hickenlooper. He faces off against President Trump. Discuss with maps.

My map link isn't printing out.

Trump would win 400 EV to DeBlasio's 138.

DeBlasio would win VT, MA, RI, DC, MD, DE, IL, WA, OR, CA, and HI.  Trump would win everything else.  And I'm not positive about IL, DE, and OR, either.

NY, NJ, and New England voters would be aware of DeBlasio being a jerk.  This would spread to where everyone would have an opinion on DeBlasio, just as folks across the nation did on John Lindsay.  He'd lose NJ and CT because those states don't want to be like NYC with it's high taxes.  Trump would be all of NY State's favorite son; he won 21 upstate counties Obama won as well as populous Suffolk County on Long Island.

That's how the unpolarizing would happen.  Northeasterners would unite against that Northeast politician they would never vote to be their Mayor or Governor.

What about black voters in VA, NC, GA? Wouldn't they be admired by his background?

Not enough to carry those states.

I know Bill is not likeable but come on if Trump is as bad as we all know he likely will be Bill will win in 2020, albeit close but win no way Trump gets a landslide

We have no idea how this election would turn out because the Trump presidency has not even started yet. We could discuss how he would do compared to other Democrats, though.

Agree with the general sentiment that Bill underperforms compared to generic D, and that it depends on how much of a colossal disaster Trump is as to whether he wins or not.

Being a jerk(at best) didn't stop Donald Trump. But de Blasio is a weak candidate.
