I don't know if punishment for flag burners is against First Amendment; but in European countries - France, Germany, Italy, Scandinavian countries and almost all others (except UK) burning or damaging flag or any other form of flag desecration is punished with prison or fine.

Europe hates freedom, lets not copy them thankyouverymuch.

Flag burning is a protest.  As long as it's not a stolen flag and fire safety is followed, people should be able to burn whatever the hell they want.  Holy books, flags, draft cards, bras, etc.

Pandering.  Just as Hillary Clinton was doing in 2005 when she and Robert Bennet introduced the Flag Protection Act in the senate.  That would have guaranteed flag-burners a year in jail and a $10000 fine.

I didn't nominate either of those clowns and I didn't vote for either of them in the general election, but I knew we'd be stuck with one of them.

That bill didn't make it in congress, partly because both Clinton and Bennett voted against it.  (Now that's a clever bit of doublespeak.  I was for bannningburnning before I was against it.)  Don't worry.  Trump will learn the language of doublespeak well enough now that he's surrounded by career politicians.

This just makes me want to take part in a public flag burning even more.  Go for it, Donald!

Just for the sake of argument: if this were the law of the land, what would happen to a protestor who burns a flag that has 48 stars instead of 50? That is, a flag that is not the official flag but bears so much resemblance to it that most people would not notice the difference. Or, say that the shade of the red stripes in the flag were slightly different compared to the shade in the official flag.

... I think you're in the wrong country. I am bothered by flag-burners as much as the next person, but I understand that in this country:

1) You have freedom of speech/expression rights under the 1st amendment.
2) A natural-born citizenship cannot be stripped.

If you are advocating against any of these two, you are un-American, period.

Because they're not a bunch of hypocritical fascists, I'm sure the Trumpchumps will agree that if their orange messiah has ever violated the Flag Code, he should be stripped of office and exiled, right?

It would be fun to watch him try. Impressed if he does pull citizenships. Do we get sent to Nauru or the Ecudorian Embassy?

I am extremely un-American. I have little doubt that I would've been a loyalist during the American Revolution.

The American founding values are absurd, and we are going to fix them for sure.

Yep.  My sister studied in Germany last year, and the disconnect between your average European and average American on freedom of expression was almost unbelievable.  They would very understandably say, "Well, given our history, we are very weary of hate speech" ... but I don't buy it.  If anything, the Nazi era should have strengthened resolve for being able to stand up and say whatever you believe without fear of retribution from your government.

However, I know that is the inherent liberty-lovin' ignoramus in me.  The rest of the world has thought of us as a bunch of liberty-above-all lunatic hicks since the Revolution, and I'm fine with that. Smiley

Agree in entirety with this post: right-wing political correctness (muh flag, my morality on television, etc) is as bad and often more dangerous than left wing political correctness (muh safe spaces! muh right to scream through Sanchez's window!)

I like the aesthetics of vexillology, but flags are basically the worst invention in humanity because of all the moronic arguments they provoke.
