Note, I don't think California will secede, but this is a hypothetical.

Obviously, the Democrats lose a large portion of their representatives and guaranteed electoral votes.  However, the situation for Democrats could be even worse than that for three reasons:

Liberal Americans move to California
Conservative Californians move to America
The Democratic Party is seen as the party of secession again, tarnishing their image in the United States

This could be the map for a post Calexit election:

There are between 4 million and 6 million regular GOP voters in California. That's between 1 and 2 percent of our population as a whole.

Plus, not all of them are going to move.

But more liberals are probably going to move to California.

California gives more to the federal government that it gets back in taxes, so it *could* secede and be fine. However... that's not a good idea. California would have to make new trade deals with everyone and build its own defense, and the US would lose its biggest and most economically strong state. Both Calfornia and the rest of the US would suffer.
