Gov. Cuomo has said he is running for a third term but there is constantly talk of a primary challenge.

Remember he only won 62% to 34% against Zephyr Teachout in 2014 primaries.

What do you think might happen in 2018?

I feel like Cuomo will get his third term without too much of a fight, but hey stranger things have happened (like this year's election).

GOP ain't winning without Gibson I think. He'd of probably lost but would of had a fighting chance at least.

Gov. Cuomo will likely win reelection to a third term in 2018, but he could face:

1) Competition from the NY GOP and his own party in the NY Democratic Party by Zephyr Teachout, again.
2) Turnout in NYC and the suburbs could be low, creating apathy because most of these areas have commuters, and Cuomo is in charge of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and he may take the blame.

Or Kennedy could jump into a race she could actually win. Either one would be preferable to Cuomo.

We've had enough Kennedy's. I don't want the one in Illinois to win, and Caroline Winning wouldn't be right either.

I could see Peter King jumping in at the last minute. He'd probably lose, but Cuomo does draw a serious primary challenge, a King vs Cuomo race could be competitive.

If Teachout enters the primary again it could be a much tougher challenge to Cuomo now that she is more well-known and would have Sanders to fundraise for her.

Zephyr Teachout defeating Andrew Cuomo and being elected Governor of New York would have massive implications for the national Dem party - it would deliver a death blow to Cuomo's Presidential ambitions and position the party for another progressive vs. center Presidential primary.

Will progressives put half as much energy here as they will trying to knock off Feinstein?

If a decent candidate crops up, almost certainly. Progressives loathe Cuomo. Hell, mainstream Democrats loathe Cuomo.

Easy win for Andrew Cuomo. Teachout hasn't even won elected office.

Tom Allon, Richard Hanna, or Adolfo Carrión Jr. would have a good chance, I think.

I'll be rooting for Cuomo unless Gibson or Astorino run.

Teachout has to be careful to not become the liberal version of Tark.

Quite true, but one more run is worth a shot. Teachout isn't insane like Tim Canova and I'd pay good money to see Cuomo's White House prospects go up like kindling.

Oh, I like Teachout. It just might be best for her to lay low for a little bit.

Without Hanna, Gibson, or Burgess this is sadly likely to be a snoozefest.

If New York Rep. Pete King became bored from being in a dysfunctional and incompetent Congress, he could run for Governor and make it interesting. However, he may not want to leave a fairly safe seat.

King certainly would make the race interesting, especially if Democrats have a bitter primary, but Democrats have a strong potential candidate for his seat in Steve Bellone {the Suffolk County Executive}, who probably would jump in if King tries to run for Governor [Or Senate against Gillibrand, which is less likely].

Actress Cynthia Nixon is in as well.

Some people think Rick Lazio will run too.
