Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is readying legislation that would extend legal protections for previously undocumented immigrants who came here as children — benefits granted under a 2012 directive from President Barack Obama that are at risk with the incoming Trump administration.

Sen. Flake supports the measure too.....let's hope for the best.

Sure, let's continue to prop up non-Americans while our own citizens receive no such aid. I hope Graham's dandy self gets primaried like no tomorrow next election.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see non-deportation immigration reform happen now. Maybe no path to citizenship but there are a lot of non-hardliner GOPers and Dems would be dumb not to sign into *something* that alleviates some of the issues in our system

The aid of ... not getting deported? Pretty sure our citizens do get the same benefit.

Good, why should the children who came here when they were little and no will of their own be punished?

This.

Glad to hear there are still common sense R legislators in congress.

I don't believe in open borders, nor am I against a wall or securing the border. I am against shipping people who grew up as Americans and have lived their entire lives here off to a third world country because their parents entered the country illegally. Anyone that disagrees is devoid of empathy.

That is my position as well. Anybody that has established themselves should get to stay.

Flake and Graham are gonna be primaries into oblivion in 2018

They already have abysmal approval ratings
Graham isn't up until 2020, by the way.

Interesting that you'd post this apparently approvingly, considering that other headlines include economic calamity and US soldiers refusing orders to commit war crimes.

Unless Haley tries to primary him, I don't see a credible challenger coming forward.  The State Senate will be up for reelection, so credible challengers from there would have to give up a safe State Senate.  If Graham was going to get primaried, the time was 2014 and no one was willing to take the risk then.

If the people of SC are sick of Graham, they're going to have to go back to their Democrats.  Because he ain't gettin' primaried, period.

I don't see who would primary Graham, but it's a little silly to suggest it couldn't be done. I'm also not convinced that Graham is even running for reelection -- I can see him running a kamikaze anti-Trump primary campaign.

Flake is a fantastic Senator, but it's very easy to see him getting primaried. If he does, hopefully Sinema runs for the Senate and defeats whoever beat Flake; she's one of my favorite congressional Democrats and among those I can see as presidential material.

Seeing as how the Republicans have only moved even further right on immigration since 2014, I can see somebody run a credible primary challenge against Graham provided that conservatives coalesce around one person who has actual credibility with the party base in the state.  Depending on what Graham does these next four years, he could be vulnerable in 2020.  We'll have to wait and see.

Rando conservatives have defeated incumbent candidates before. Remember Bob Bennett. Remember Eric Cantor. They don't even need a good candidate. The only thing odd about this race is that Graham didn't get challenged before.

Hm?  He did - by six people.  He won with well over 50% of the vote.

But, again, that was 2014.

Trump-affiliated rich guy Bill Stern was likely to mount a run for Governor next cycle prior to the appointment of Haley as U.N. Ambassador (which will result in Trump ally McMaster ascending to the Governorship), so I could definitely see him challenging Graham, and with the backing of the White House, he'd probably win the primary.
It would definitely need Trump actively campaigning for him in order for Stern to have a chance.

What exactly do you have against the DREAM Act?

It looks like good legislation to me.
