There are two others I would make a case for in addition to 2016 and 2008:
2000- The closeness and the controversy really marked the beginning of this hyper-partisan era where we can't even agree on the facts
2004- It brought social issues to the front and really woke up the social conservative wing of the GOP. It also showed that Democrats can win when they focus on the economy, but struggle when they play identity politics.
