It's not inevitable.  Trump has a hard core of enemies.  But the Democrats are really hard up for candidates. 

Had the Democrats not gone into the tank for Hillary Clinton, they'd have a stable of candidates with exposure that might have been "somebodies" for 2020 in an open seat election.   That didn't happen.  The Democrats shot themselves in the foot, both for 2016 AND 2020.  Good job, Debbie, John, Jen, Robbie, and all those still in the tank!
