In other words, I have no ideological fondness for your Blairite (the poster) or Bloomberg types; they are an absolute roadblock to a functioning political system.

Actually, in his role as chair of the DCCC, Rahm Emanuel was an idiot who consistently supported candidates and strategies that underperformed, but nevertheless got a ton of undeserved credit because
1) he oversaw the '06 midterms which was always going to be a historic democratic landslide and was impossible to totally bungle
2) he is extremely good at cultivating an image for himself as a no-nonsense foul mouthed pragmatist who "gets stuff done"

He actually did play a major role in the Democrats winning the House in 2006, though. Indeed, both Dean's 50-state strategy as well as Emanuel made very significant contributions.  Sure, some of his handpicked candidates like Steve Filson & Andrew Horne fizzled out while others like Tammy Duckworth narrowly lost, but he also recruited candidates like Heath Shuler, Harry Mitchell, Ed Perlmutter, Brad Ellsworth, Gabby Giffords, Ron Klein, Jason Altmire, Steve Kagen, etc. Plus, Emanuel was far better at messaging on a bad day than Dean was on his best day. So yeah, he was pretty critical to the Democrats retaking the House.
