obama was right, obviously. trump isn't gonna be able to cut deals with every potential outsourcer out there, or even a significant proportion of them. the carriėr thing is pretty much just a publicity stunt.

I remember when Barry thought Trump would not be President and cracked a joke about it.

Guess he isn't laughing now.

It's precedent, too. Picking and choosing winners, public money into specific corporate pockets, all more open and direct than previously. Norming fascism. (The workers can be quietly laid off, or pushed into quitting, a year or three down the road.)

And allowing companies to go overseas where they receive foreign subsidies and pay their laborers slave wages while escaping American taxes and dumping their goods on the market isn't an example of governments picking winners and losers?

President Obama wasn't wrong when he said that. Trump, essentially, paid them to stay with the use of taxpayer money. This is a highly profitable company who chose to relocate those 1,000 jobs to Mexico for one reason - increased profits. Every company, seeing this move, will seek to replicate it if they have any business sense. Considering you can't buy off every business seeking to potentially relocate, what will Trump do? And why must the American taxper subsidize the enormous profits of these corporations, such as Carrier, which not too long ago gave their CEO a golden parachute of over $120 million?

Complete bullsh**t false dilemma.

President-elect Pussygrabber isn't preventing companies from hiring work done overseas or penalizing them if they do, he's bribing one company to keep some work in the US.

And when it comes to complaints about picking winners, allowing ALL companies to ship jobs overseas (good or bad) has nothing in common with bribing ONE company to stay.

P.S. ALL of this is tangential to the FACT that the US is not (supposed to be) an autocracy. We The People set laws and policy, including on trade, through our representatives in Congress. The President's job is to carry out the law not rule by whim and fiat.

I'm sympathetic to the argument that Congress is not doing its job. But under no circumstances is enabling a spoiled brat of a tyrant a better alternative. And pretending that he's not acting outside the bounds of tradition and law is just deplorable.
