Seeing as how he is supposedly an anti-Semite.

Why did Jesse Helms hire James Meredith as a domestic advisor on his Senate staff?  Seeing as how he is supposedly a racist.

It's almost as if people are complex and their habits can't be distilled into simple tropes...

James Meredith supported David Duke's run for Governor. That's all that needs to be said about Helms hiring him.

*facepalm*

My point is that BRTD's argument is basically another version of "____ has black friends, so he can't be racist."  If you're gonna give Ellison a pass on his anti-Semitism because of that insane logic, you also have to do the same for anyone James Meredith supported.  What dc al fine said is also true, of course.

Why did Trump do better than Romney with Hispanics?  Seeing as he is supposedly a racist.  Better?

Because a lot of liberal Jews are willing to forgive soft anti-semitism on the left if the candidate hits all their other progressive buttons. This isn't new.

That's... an eye opener. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

The equivalent to this would be Helms overwhelmingly winning the black vote. This would be an acceptable counter example only if I cited Ellison as having a Jewish domestic advisor.

No comment on the rest (Keith Ellison is not a frickin' anti-Semite), but this ignores the woeful degree to which right-wingers routinely ignore hard anti-semitism on the right.

I might be breaking with some conservatives here, but he isn't an anti-semite.  People are way too quick to accuse people of being some sort of -ist, -phobe, or anti-, when there are very, very, very few of those sorts of people left alive in this country (and certainly none in elected office at any level).

It's kinda funny how some Republicans are accusing Ellison of being an antisemite when Steve Bannon is now an influential figure in their party.

Kind of funny how so many liberals are quick to dismiss allegations of anti-semitism when they pioneered the "if someone is offended, take them seriously" philosophy that led to half the garbage going on at college campuses today.

Until recently it was almost nonexistent.  Accusations of racism come mostly from the left and accusations of Antisemitism mostly came from the right until last year.

Neither are anti-Semitic, but the anti-Semitism Bannon is being accused of is far worse than the "anti-Semitism" Ellison is.

Because most Jews are smart enough to see that he doesn't have an antisemitic bone in his body.
