I didn't include landslides in the options
I didn't include 1996, because it was too similar to 1992, I didn't include 2000, because it was too similar to 2004, and I didn't include 2012, because it was too similar to 2008.

1992 is interesting since the states that Bill Clinton won were scattered all over the place. 1976 looks cool too. I agree that 2004 is quite an aesthetically pleasing map.

1960 for being such a memorable tease. Nixon got all the right bellweather states but still lost unless you flip IL and TX or IL, MO, and NJ.

2008 because it's nice and, for once, doesn't have annoying red/Atlas blue Indiana sticking out.

I don't like maps in which some states are islands.
In 1992, Indiana was an island. In 2016, Illinois was an island. The 2004 map was better than the 2000 map because, in 2000, New Hampshire and New Mexico looked like wrong pieces in the puzzle.

so your favourite has to be one of the pre-1960 ones, then?

1976, though I think it would have been great had Carter carried OR.

It's between Jesusland (2004) and 2016.  I'm going with 2004.

2008 looks pretty good, and highlights how... interesting West Virginia is.

2004 was great because of Jesusland and the whole Confederacy united. But I'm in love with the Rust Belt so it's 2016 by inches ^^

Out of these, 2008. The best map is 1936, though.

Of these choices, 1976.  Of the post-Clinton era, 2016.

1992 and only because the areas Bill won seemed really balanced between most regions(except the Plains of course).

'76 is pretty close to a map of states I like against state I don't like.
