I'm in the camp that believes Bernie Sanders would've won going away against Donald Trump. But many people are saying Trump was the strongest Republican in the field and it was a movement that wouldn't be stopped by either party.

So what would a Trump victory look like (electorally/popular vote/and overall tone to slander Bernie)?

Discuss with maps.

Less than expected Bernie gains among WWC, while significant losses in metropolitan centers. 2004 redux. Admittedly his EC distribution is more efficient than Clinton's.

Ha ha no Trump was not the strongest Republican. Just Bernie may be too far left for the general.

Incidentally, here's a look at the Republican oppo file on Sanders, which they had just in case he won the nomination:

Sanders wins PA, WI, and MI, but Trump wins NV, VA, and probably CO.

No way Trump wins VA against Sanders (or any other Democrat).

Clinton is way more popular in VA than Sanders, plus Sanders probably wouldn't pick a Virginian as his VP. Sanders would greatly underperform Clinton in NoVA and likely get lower black turnout as well.

Having been around operatives when they're manipulating reporters, that sounds a LOT like an operative manipulating a reporter.

That said, what they told the writer would have been hard to deal with by itself. Which Bernie probably would have dealt with by squarely addressing, apologizing if necessary, staying on message, and waiting until Trump did something stupid and the media paid attention to something else.

If it only took a week for major anti-Trump oppo dumps to exit the news cycle, why would it have been any different for Sanders?  I guess they could have brought his favorables down to earth, and may have indeed imperiled his prospects in Florida.  However, I think that article overstates the extent to which they might have changed the overall trajectory of the race, particularly if Sanders had run a smart campaign.

Sanders would definitely not lose New Hampshire.

Here is how Trump could have beaten Sanders:

Its this. Assuming Bernie does worse with minorities, and marginally better with whites you get a cracked blue fire wall. I'd flip Iowa and one of Maines congressional districts though.

Sanders losing CO? It would have been his best state - Best Dem performance in CO in many decades. And oppo research? Statements in the 1980's?

After Trump was elected with his history of speech against women & pussy grabbing sexual assault, you think people give a sh** about all garbage?

Bernie would have done better in Nevada for sure. Bernie did pretty well with Hispanics so if anything enthusiasm for him would have been even greater for him than Clinton. And he would have done better with working class whites in general, which is the reason why Nevada was one of the few western states to trend Republican this year.

I agree he would have done worse in Virginia, but I don't think he would have lost it. He would have done worse in Texas and Orange county, CA as well.........

People keep saying this, but Sanders was doing just as well and even better than Clinton in VA polls. Those NoVA voters wouldn't even consider voting Republican for president (and especially not Trump), so I find it hard to believe that Sanders would have lost the state. Also not buying that black turnout would have been lower with him on top of the ticket (and if anything, increased White millenial turnout would have made up for that).
