I live in California. Both of the state legislators where I live are Republicans. Both parties are polarized. Would a nonpartisan legislature make governance slightly better and at least slightly reduce partisanship?

Nebraska has that.

It doesn't work in practice.

I reckon it would work in a different era. I'm not sure how much of the blame for Nebraska can be attributed to national polarization.

Would it at least marginally reduce polarization?

Definitely not. I prefer the basic structure and organization that party leadership provides. I consider party to be the primary consideration in my vote. I feel more represented by a Democrat across the country than by a local Republican.

I'm from Southern CA. My state legislators are both partisan Republicans. I would prefer less partisan leaders in my districts.
