That's nice, I suppose, but it takes away the MS Delta state, the DC Metro state, and the Atlantic coast state.

The sad price of compromise and progress Tongue

In this Map I have tried to keep major metro areas together to form the heart of some of the new states, while still keeping a couple states that are based on regional culture/history. Here the capital is it's own special district that serves as the seat of the regional government while being autonomous to administer itself.

Chesapeake: Centered around the Nyman D.C. metro, it's capital is Baltimore.

Carolina: Formed around the Charolotte, Raleigh, and Charleston metro areas this state would also mostly keep the Carolinas intact. It's capital is Charleston.

Atlantis: Capital is Atlanta.

Seminole-Caribe: The merger of Florida and Puerto Rico. Capital is St. Petersburg.

Appalachia: Not a perfect outline of Appalachia but I think it it well rounded enough. It's capital is Lexington.

The Capital District: Not a state but self governing over it's own affairs.

Mississippi: This is more of a creation of a shared area of culture and history with the delta and the historic "black belt". It's capital is Vicksburg.

Mizurah: Its times Kansas and Missouri look past their differences and merge over their shared love of good KC barbecue. Capital is the merged Kansas City.

North Texas: Oklahoma is essentially north Texas anyways so this makes sense. The Capital is Dallas.

South Texas. The chief provider of tacos and live music for the region. Capital is San Antonio.

DeSoto: Named for the conquistador explorer. Home to Cajun culture, an obnoxious amount of Jimmy Buffet music, and the the largest port in the region. The capital is Houston.

Well, I believe that Leinad's map displays the best divisions of our region.

Again, Texas should not be subdivided.

Well if we can go ahead an move on, I would be fine with submitting my final map and Leinads vs status quo to the public in a referendum.

Okay well if everyone is fine with letting the public vote on those three maps, does anyone else have constitutional changes in mind to bring up? Regional name and bringing up new state ideas for a public vote were the two big items on my check list.

One of the main purposes in establishing this, in my mind at least, was to ensure that the purpose and powers of the branches were clearly established. It is unclear what the Government can and cannot do, right now I have the power to essentially rule by executive order.

Hmm, perhaps a phrase such as:

"The Governor may use executive order for appointments, to instruct regional offices under the executive, and in carrying out the enforcement of the law, however these orders may never contradict laws passed by the Legislature or the people."

So a quick summery of what we have so far:

1. We will suggest that the Legislature adopt or put to referendum the name Jefferson for the region.

2. We will suggest that the legislature allow the people to vote by referendum on the new map proposals with an option for keep things as they are.

3. Propose a constitutional amendment where the Governor's power of executive order is more clearly defined as used for instructing offices under his jurisdiction and for making appointments as the power to legislate resides solely with the Chamber of Delegates.

Does anyone else have anything to add?

Also while we are at it why not create a "powers denied" section and include things such as, idk..., the income tax? Tongue

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with Northern Missouri and Kansas City. They don't really fit into Oklahoma or the Ozarks, but I don't think they'd appreciate being their own state.

Also not sure about Acadiana (Southern Louisiana), Columbia (D.C Metro + MD), and South Florida. They do have their own unique culture, but I would imagine they wouldn't be very populated.

Also here's some info on the states.

I've read through it, and I just don't don't think that putting the whole "remaking the states" thing to a public referendum is going to be a good idea. I think it would be a bit better if the Governor put together a team to research where the creation of a state would be most beneficial.

Seeing how this taskforce never formally ended, I ask that the Governor either replace inactive members with new people, or call a whole new taskforce altogether. To make it easy we can focus on one topic: renaming the region.
