snowed again this morning.  Another ~4 cm to go on top of the 4 cm we got yesterday.  Easy pushing.  After cleaning the drive we took the sleds to the hill and played for about an hour.  Cold, though.

Just a little dusting today.  They were predicting one to three inches of a mix of snow and ice.  Fortunately that did not come to pass, as we are having dinner guests this evening.

It was pretty weird, though.  I bicycled to the gym around 12:30 pm and it was cold but clear at the time.  The streets were dry and the air, although moist, showed no signs of snow or rain.  Then, at about 1:30 I noticed that snow falling so I headed home quickly to avoid having to ride on slick streets.  The snowfall only lasted about 30 minutes and it's really just a covering, like a layer of dust.

In that depressing phase where there is barely any snow on the ground at all (hasn't legit snowed since well before Christmas and got warm enough to melt it) - just like "gusts" or whatever - but it is so God damn cold that it's not going anywhere for a while!

13 degrees right now, and it feels warm compared to last night.  Midwest!

This is why the Midwest is the worst region of the county, by far.

Hard snow falling now, so thick the visibility is probably less than 100 m.  Weird, too, because it wasn't snowing at all an hour ago.  I don't think much will accumulate, but it'd be hard to drive just now.

Had some on Friday night that still hasn't at all lifted which was very annoying when the fire alarm went off at school again (4 times in 3 weeks!, damn smokers).

It would be a bad call anyway, the only real problem now is visibility.  Best to keep everyone on campus and off the streets till it blows over.  (IH83 south of harrisburg is closed for a six-mile stretch in both directions because of a big accident.  Wouldn't want to see that here.)

I keep checking the website at my son's school in MT, about 9 miles north of here.  They frequently cancel.  No messages so far.

We had snow that partially covered the ground once, and that was for about 24 hours.  But, since the average high this January has been 55 degrees, we obviously have not had much winter weather.

After a vigorous start in Dec, winter has flatlined here. Dec started with 11 days of snow in the first 17 days, but there has only been 0.6 inches of snow since 12/19 - the second lowest amount for the mid-winter period. Jan was also the second cloudiest on record, and slightly warmer than normal. There were plenty of seasonably cold days, but the cold cloudy days didn't convert to snow. The precipitation favored the warmer than average days last month so there was almost 3 inches of rain in Jan.

We still have not had a single day with measurable snow on the ground (there was one day with trace amounts), and only 0.7 inches of snowfall total (most of which never stuck).  I'm not sure that we will get a real snowfall this year, and I'm perfectly OK with that.  I'll take this 60 degree and cloudy "winter" over actual cold and snow.  Some years, we get an actual winter, but other years, we just get three seasons down here.

Tuesday could reach the mid-to-upper 70s if everything breaks right.

the first one resulted in one inch of snow

the 2nd one resulted in 3 inches of snow

the third one resulted in one inch of snow

the 4th one resulted in 10-12 inches of snow

Well, now that the unofficial first day of spring in the South (opening day of college baseball season) has passed, let me say that, if this winter was caused by global warming, let's see if we can cause some more of that!!  All winter, we got a coating of snow once and never had measurable snow on the ground.  60s and even 70s were the norm this year (as I type this on a beautiful Friday afternoon with bright sunshine and temperatures in the 70s)!

We have a record high today of 67 at O'Hare smashing the old record of 60 from 1880. It's been so mild for the last two months, that many people I've talked to have forgotten how severe the first half of Dec was. We also can joke about the groundhog claiming 6 more weeks of winter. Cheesy

Well, considering it has snowed in the Sahara before, I am surprised that it has never snowed here XD

High of 62 in Iowa City!  Naively hoping that the snow is dead and gone for the year.

In Madison we still have piles of snow around parking lots and some streets.  Never mind the fact that it was 60 yesterday, one degree short of the record.  We're looking at 58 today which would be a record.  Similar to what muon2 described, we got hammered in December, getting snow about 4 weekends in a row.  It became more sporadic in January and early February, though a thin coating of snow had lingered for a couple weeks.  Now we're in full meltdown mode.

What an incredibly beautiful Saturday it is today in Chicago. One of those unseasonably warm February days that you could just sit/walk around outside all day. Currently 63 and not a cloud in the sky.

And it reached 67 surpassing the old record of 62 from 1981. Then again it was a beautiful day to test drive some cars after spending a day at the Chicago Auto Show last Sat.

No more than a dusting all season.  Given the frailty of my parents, I'm grateful for how easy this winter has been so far, though I fear a late season surprise not unlike that 'storm of the century' which hit the east coast in March 1993.

The NWS service officially put the high on 2/18 at 70.

Yesterday reached 69 beating 65 from 1930. The pleasant temps led to a nice hike in the Morton Arboretum. The witch hazel was in bloom, but there were still some thin ice spots on large shaded ponds. We will see today if we can make it 4 record days in a row.

For the first time this spring, the NWS is now reporting that there is a detectable heat index (really just a "mere" 77 degrees) in Nashville.
