There is debate and concern in some circles over this, but if it's simply because of his viewpoint on foreign policy in the middle east than progressive Dems would easily look past this because of the continued support for dovish foreign policy within populist circles especially on the left.

There is debate over the nature of antisemitism and how it relates to Israel. If you select option two be prepared to point out evidence that has nothing to do with Israel in the slightest.

for the record I think the accusations of antisemitism is political hackery and a hit job

No.

But he does have some worrying elements in his background, financially and in wanting black separatism.

I don't think so, but there's a heckuva lot more evidence that he is, than there is for Steve Bannon, who the left had a conniption over. If we want people to take us seriously, we have got to stop doing this.

There is debate over the nature of antisemitism and how it relates to Israel. Option one is for those who believe that one can be anti-semitic by opposing Israel and that no other evidence is necessary to make this judgement of character. If you select option two be prepared to point out evidence that has nothing to do with Israel in the slightest.

There's no option for people who believe that one can be anti-Israel in ways that aren't anti-Semitic or also in ways that are.

The accusation is even more hilarious with who he endorsed for President.

Of course most of the accusation is from people who also think my church is anti-Semitic even though almost everyone there supported a Jew for President too.

If you think that he's anti-isreal but not anti-semetic than choose option three, if you think he's anti-semetic for reasons relating to isreal choose option 1. I'll fix the post to make it less specific.

happily surprised to see less of a debate on this than I thought. I was being all neutral because I thought this was hot button but we've yet to see any disagreement against him lacking prejudice against Jews.

To be fair, didn't George Wallace endorse Jesse Jackson at some point? Similar situation, I'd say.

Yes, clearly, in relations to his hatred of Israel and his attempts to tie "Jewish influence" to the Pro-Israel Lobby.

His ties to the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan do not surprise me, at all.

Also, supporting a Jew for president doesn't make someone not an antisemite. would any progressives say that about racists who voted for Obama? It's very much possible to make political decisions that seem intelligent and progressive while also still being a bigot.

in my estimation, ellison's worldview is probably vaguely tinged with anti-semitism, but he isn't ~actively~ anti-semitic, if that makes sense

I highly doubt it. Not supporting Israel does not automatically make someone antisemitic, in my opinion (and I recognize as Jewish.) While I doubt that he and I agree entirely on the Israel/Palestine conflict, I don't think this attack on his character is justified.

ITT: goysplaining

Also lol @ the idea that endorsing/supporting/voting for Sanders/Feingold/[insert politician who happens to be Jewish] automatically means one cannot be antisemitic

Also lol @ the idea that saying he's antisemitic  is "hackery" while Jews voted 71-24 for the Dems and it's mostly Jews associated with or voting for the Democratic Party and/or the left speaking out on this

But who care bc jews are privileged and antisemitism doesnt exist on the left amirite?

The left isn't speaking out this. Some deranged 3rd way hacks are, although 3rd way Schumer is still behind Ellison.
