No!
To secede over one election is so idiotic.  Then they'll want to come back in when the Democrats are back in power.

I have a feeling that if California seceded that they would wind up one of the States of Mexico.

California has a larger GDP than Mexico.

It would be stupid and bad for both CA and the country as a whole, but they should be allowed to secede if they wanted

Mexico would be one of the States of California in this scenario.

I wonder what the effect on the US economy would be if California seceded?

I've toyed with the idea that CA, WA, and OR (comprising all counties -- if the Republicans living in the arid parts of those states don't like, let them move to ID) joining Canada in a Free Trade Confederation/military cooperative so that Pacifica (or whatever you wish to call it) can benefit from Canada's exposure to the Atlantic, at the same time denying the Rump US any access to the Pacific.

Probably worse than anyone can imagine.  The U.S. wouldn't be a leader in hi-tech (there are a lot of hi tech companies based in Seattle, Boston, Austin and a few other cities, but the vast majority is in the Bay Area).  The entertainment industry would be greatly affected (movies are one of the main exports of the U.S. economy).  Agriculture too, since California is a large producer.  Also, California is America's link to the Pacific, which means that trade with Asian countries would be affected as well, so say goodbye to cheap cellphones.  I'm betting that if California leaves the U.S., Hawaii would follow.

Alaska could leave also and maybe join Canada sometime in the future in that scenario.

If California wants to leave they should be allowed to leave. So should any other State or States that want to leave.
So many problems with that, I don't know where to start.  Would the military bases remain under U.S. control?  What about nuclear weapons?  Forget it, no State can secede!

All US secession movements are presently little more than wishful thinking. But what you're talking about isn't coming from nowhere:

Give us a few years of Worst Trump, especially if he disappoints all his right-wing supporters inland, and Cascadia might become a real thing.

It very well could happen also if the Electoral College is ended and the Northeast and West Coast Elects every President and everyone else's vote becomes pretty much worthless.

No. Who would contribute enough to the GDP and federal budget to pay for food stamps for Kentucky, West Virginia and all those other helpless states? lol.

California should be allowed and encouraged to leave the Union.

This thread is a year old and I don't know why BWP Conservative decided to bump it. Since CalExit and similar organizations have closed their doors, and since it is clear that CA will not be making an attempt to secede in the near future, the question is no longer timely, and I am locking the thread & poll.
