This has gotten more media coverage in the US than I expected (which was none).

This got any media coverage outside of India? Not a drop here.

The only media coverage that I saw about her was all the breaking news about the evolution of her health when I was in India few weeks ago, I may say I didn't even know about her, and apparently not even all young Indians know very much about her, I was in Mumbai though, might be different in the South.

Popped up on my news feed from an LA Times post, and there was an article in The Economist.
