How are you an Independent? When don't you support the Republicans?

How are you not partisan? When don't you bash the Republicans? Wink

Anyways, I agree with MODU - even if you are born rich, you can't become the CEO of a successful company without putting effort into it. For instance, Paris Hilton will never really amount to anything - sure, she's rich, but you will never see her in a high corporate position or in political office, because she's lazy.

For starters, as Carl will tell you (for example), I'm not a supporter of guns nor the NRA.  I'm for strict gun control and maximum sentances for crimes committed with a gun.  Additionally, I think the government should only be involved with international affairs, military, and national projects (such as Oak Ridge/Manhattan project).  Many of the stuff the government has been involved with over the past 2-3 decades should be either state or private matters, not federal.

But then again, I have a strong military and conservative view on the world, which is why I lean more towards Republicans than Democrats . . . but I am far from a line-towing, card-carrying member.

Good lord man, 'amount to anything'?  The girl is in a higher position due to good fortune of birth than anything a toiler could aspire to - simply because a life of toil is a life wasted, however great the reward, at least compared to a life of leisure.

I am for a flatter tax that is simpler and less ridden with loopholes that allow some wealthy individuals and corporations to get away without paying their full share of taxation.

There should be something like in the Forbes tax plan where individuals under a certain threshold owe no income tax burden.

Well, I think I have a response that is at least intellectually equal to your posts, if not superior.

Amen to that.

Don't worry about him.  It's the STD's talking.

I think "ambitious" people would actually work harder if they had to pay higher taxes, and thus couldn't make millions of dollars as easily.

Look at professional athletes.  Before free agency in the 1970's, your average major league baseball player made an middle class salary, and never had any hope of making a $1 million/year, even if they were the best player in the league.  Now every major-leaguer makes $1 million/year, and the best makes $25 million.

Do these athletes work harder now than they did forty years ago because they can now make millions?  I think a case could be made that they worked harder before because the riches didn't come so easily...they weren't set for life by siginging a $20 million contract immediately upon being drafted.

Similarly, a CEO might work harder because his $10 million salary is taxed at 95% rather than 35%...he can't just retire after one year and be rich for the rest of his life.  Ambitious and talented people will be more productive if they actually have to work for a living rather than just accumulating wealth that they will never need.

People don't work for five cents on the dollar.

I don't know why socialists are so committed to hurting the poor and middle class by making it next to impossible for them to become rich.
