Markell would be a clear front runner if this opened up

Hope he doesn't run - and we should primary him even if he does.

I like Carper, but I saw him at a rally during the primaries earlier this year, and he's definitely getting up there. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't run.

Is Mike Castle fed up with politics, or might there be one race left in the old codger?

Didn't he only run in 2010 to finish the last few years on Biden's term? I thought I remember seeing somewhere that he wasn't going to run for a full term in 2014.

Markell would presumably have right of first refusal in the primary, though Delaware Democrats sometimes like to elect young freshmen (see Joe Biden or, less obviously, Chris Coons).

Even if Markell ran, I'd remind him that there was a time when Markell was the young upshot who scored a major upset against an entrenched, long time favorite.

TBF, those were both sacrificial lambs that ended up winning due to really strong campaigning (Biden) or luck (Coons).

Was Coons really a "sacrificial lamb"? I know he was the underdog, but I thought that race was always going to be vaguely competitive.

Maybe Lisa Blunt Rochester will run?

She probably wants to serve a number of years in the House before she runs for higher office.

Hopefully good riddance to by far the most conservative Democrat from a Gore or Kerry state.

People expected Beau Biden to run for the Democratic nomination, polls had him and Castle in dead heat. When the younger Biden declined, Castle was thought of as a shoo-in. Until that nutcase pissed away a perfectly winnable seat. Ugh, I will never endorse the crazy witch for anything again.

Worked for Tom Cotton and Steve Daines.

Would be sad to see Tom Carper to retire, he's one of the most well-liked members of the senate.

Progressives, on the contrary, would be delighted. Carper is, surely, too conservative for them

I imagine she'd strongly consider it if Markell doesn't run. If Markell runs, she'll probably stay put in the house.

Joe? Cheesy

He would also get the title “Deputy President Pro Tempore”, which former presidents and vice-presidents who join the senate are given.

Here's a fun fact: Chris Coons is actually short in real life.

Is this like the opposite of the Napoleon one?

I'll start telling people that. "Napoleon wasn't actually short. But Chris Coons is!"

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he retires... and Biden runs again for the senate.

That's quite a precarious limb you're standing on.
