how do you all size up the nc race between incumbent democrat mike easley and his yet to be determined republican challenger.

at least 7 gopers are lining up to face easley.  it's a pretty weak bunch.  the only republican running with significant name recognition is former charlotte mayor richard vinroot.  unfortunately for vinroot, his name recognition is largely due to his two previous losing bids for governor.

right now, i give easley the edge by about 4-5 points.

The Presidential coattails could be an underestimated factor here.

i believe the chances are higher than that.  easley IS beatable, i just dont see any of the republicans that are currently running having much of a shot.  it's too bad richard burr didnt run for governor in 2000.  he definitely would have beaten easley.

i dont think bush's coattails will be much of a factor.  they will only come into play if it is an extrememly close race, which i dont see happening.

i voted for easley in 2000.  im resigned to doing it again.   maybe burr will opt to enter the governors race instead of the senate race.  oh well...i can daydream.
