This isn’t a 2020 primary poll, but it’s still relevant, as all of these people (except Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who’re ineligible) seem to be floating a possible 2020 run….

Bloomberg national poll, conducted Dec. 2-5:

http://assets.bwbx.io/documents/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/rOrpGo837s3s/v0

Who should be the leading voice for the direction for the direction of the Democratic Party as it looks to rebuild?

all voters:
Sanders 20%
Obama 17%
Biden 14%
Warren 11%
B. Clinton 9%
H. Clinton 7%

Democrats only:
Obama 25%
Sanders 24%
Warren 17%
Biden 11%
H. Clinton 11%
B. Clinton 7%

Also, national favorability among all voters…

fav/unfav %:
Biden 56/34% for +22%
Sanders 53/34% for +19%
Warren 35/27% for +8%
Clinton 41/55% for -14%

Well it makes sense. Obama is the most effective voice for the 'establishment' wing and Bernie is the most effective voice for the 'grassroots' wing.

Essentially Obama and Sanders have large amounts of influence to push the party in different directions. Of course they will need to find ways to refine the party's coalition and pass the torches to younger Dems into leadership.

I should've voted for Bernie in the primary. If this country can elect a realty tv star billionaire with a mixed business record at best and who supposedly did everything wrong in running a campaign then we certainty could've rolled the dice with a democratic socialist.

I think the most telling statistic is that Bernie does better among all voters than among Democrats.  Bernie had crossover appeal the "moderate", "centrist" or whatever the F they call themselves Clintons (I call them corporatists) couldn't even dream of.

This is a country where more than 50% of registered voters stay home on election day.  The goal isn't to get center-right voters to vote for you, it's to appeal to all the people to stay home and give them a convincing message, and that's what the Clintons, Kaine, Schumer, Debbie and all those other morons didn't get, or didn't care about.

Agreed. He would've kept PA, WI, and MI in the Democrats corner. He would've also held onto Virginia and Colorado. In this scenario, he could've lost Nevada and he still would've won the election.

People know that Sanders is an honest man with genuine convictions who could not simply be bought off by any lobbyist walking in the door. In Washington politics, that's a rarity. It didn't hurt that countless people believed in his message of fairness and social justice as well, largely Progressives and Independents of all political affiliations. The man shall remain a popular and inspring figure in American politics, loathed only by the partisan right.

Personally, I'd like to see the Democratic Party's leading voices be Sanders and Biden; Obama's good as well, particularly when representing the diversity of our party, but his closeness to corporate aligned Democratic politics is unsettling.

Biden also does a bit better with all voters. Obama & Warren in this poll do much better among a pure Dem group that among all voters.

We need more polls without Bill & Obama. It will also be important to understand if Warren has any cross-over appeal like Sanders had!

Obama is a retired President, he can't sully that office by taking a political role! A very active role within Dems vs Trump doesn't befit him!

I have a feeling a Civil War will be brewing in the Democratic Party between the Establishment symbolized by Barack Obama,Joe Biden and Hillary and the Young Insurgents in the Party symbolized by Bernie Sanders and his young supporters. I think Bernie and his backers will win because they will have more energy and determination than the Establishment. A bloody Civil War will set the Democratic Party back and it could be a long walk in the wilderness.

If Sanders run he will sweep NH. And he has a very good chance in both NV & IW. If he goes to SC with a 3-0 record, it will be tough to beat him. Even if Obama & Hillary endorses Biden, it will be difficult for him to do the same numbers with blacks that Clinton did (which was shaped by personal Clinton affection, low name recognition of Sanders & huge elect-ability argument vs Sanders).

I could see the Sanders win taking over in a bloodless coup!

I don't think Bernie will run again in 2020.  He will be 79 (83 in 2024) and a campaign is really hard work.  I do however think he would be a great VP candidate if he is doing well health-wise.

He's only 5 years older than Trump, and in better shape.

He is still going to Sanding Rock & doing rallies in DC & everywhere with unions n stuff - He was way fitter than Hillary & Hillary may run again. Joe Biden has already said he will probably run & he will be almost as old as Bernie.

Trump is only a little younger than Bernie. Maybe Bernie won't be running but I feel he has become to big of a leader of a movement to be the VP candidate. And if he is healthy enough to be VP, then he could be running. He has ruled out not running saying who knows what will happen in 2020, that is a long time away.

And if he doesn't run, maybe there will be a civil war within the progressive wing - If Gabbard or Merkley run vs Warren & Bernie doesn't endorse Warren then that would be fun too. It will be interesting to see if Warren runs away but Gabbard is a terrific speaker (way better than Warren) but  too young & not as progressive.

I wouldn't be shocked if Gabbard was named the VP Candidate by Biden,Sanders or Warren in 2020. She's got a very promising future in the Democratic Party.

Even if Bernie doesn't run again, I can see him becoming the Democrats' unofficial kingmaker.
